This is common on D60HF's, they have been doing it for long as I can remember. The old C40s in JG used to do it on occasion as well.

If my car's squeaked like that, I'd expect the belts to snap like a rubberband at any moment.

They've done that for as long as I can recall. Here on the Grand Concourse, they scare the Hell out of me; they sound like cars screeching in potential accidents.

Its a defect with the older new flyer buses I have heard the ones in phx la and new york do it I think its there alternator belt or the pully that messes up

Actually the alternator belt has a self tensioner, same as all DD Series 50 engines have. The problem is the A/C and hydraulic pump belts. New or old belt, tight or slightly loose doesn't really change much. Give it a very short amount of time and they will make noise.

All these boxy buses look alike to me. Are these Orion or New Flyer ?

New Flyer. D60 high floor models to be exact. So far, I haven't heard these sounds on our D60s (1998s), yet.

And depends on which depot they come from Quill keeps the there buses clean and in good shape
