Starting on Sunday, August 31, bus customers will see service enhancements that include new routes, extensions and stops throughout New York City, such as the new M12 route on the Far West Side to meet a demand for public transportation in an area of Manhattan that has experienced significant residential and commercial growth.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) works with communities to provide affordable public transportation options to neighborhoods with growing transit needs. The extension of the Bx24 to the Hutchinson Metro Center in the Bronx is an example of how New York City Transit (NYCT) works with residents, businesses and elected officials to address a need as well as to increase service on a route with potential ridership growth.

Other changes, such as moving bus stops in the densely populated neighborhood of Flushing, Queens, were made at the request of the community to help alleviate congestion and make commutes easier for customers.

“New York City changes all the time, and we must keep up by making accommodations and adding service when the need arises,” said NYCT President Carmen Bianco. “We are committed to improving reliability and service for our customers in all five boroughs.”

The $4.9 million in service enhancements are:

B13, B83, Q8 extensions
All three routes will be extended to a new bus terminal at Gateway Center II (Gateway Center North) in the Spring Creek area of Brooklyn.

Bx24 extension
The route will be extended from Westchester Square to the end of Marconi Street by the 911 Call Center in the Hutchinson Metro Center. The extension adds four eastbound stops and four westbound at the Metro Center.

M12
The new service will accommodate customers along 11th and 12th Avenues between Abington Square in the West Village and Columbus Circle, an area that has been developing rapidly. The northern terminal will be on West 58th Street at Broadway. The southern terminal will be on Eighth Avenue at Jane Street.

Q17, Q27 terminal relocations
The terminals for both routes in downtown Flushing will be relocated from Main Street between 39th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue to 138th Street between 39th and 37th Avenues.

Q113 Local becomes Q114 Limited
The Q113 local route will be restructured as the Q114 Limited to provide faster service to customers traveling a long distance along Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in South Jamaica and Rochdale Village. The new Q114 route will make limited stops on the Boulevard, then all local stops along Brookville Boulevard and through Woodmere, Cedarhurst, Inwood, Lawrence and Far Rockaway. During overnight hours, it will make all local stops along Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. The Q113 Limited will continue its limited-stop service from Jamaica through Far Rockaway, and the Q111 will continue to make all local stops from Jamaica through Rosedale.

S93 service additions (begins on Sept. 2)
Midday and evening service will be added to the limited-stop route that travels between Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and the College of Staten Island. Buses will run between 5:45 a.m. and 10 p.m.

X21 Super Express (service begins on Sept. 2)
The Super Express concept is coming to Eltingville in Staten Island via the X21, which will travel to Midtown Manhattan along 42nd Street. It will operate during morning and evening peak hours, making a limited number of stops and offering a faster commute for many customers of existing Staten Island express buses. The terminal in Manhattan will be located on East 41 Street and First Avenue. The Staten Island terminal will be located in the Hylan Boulevard bus loop on Richmond Avenue.

And they still didn't put in that westbound stop at CSI. That extra service is definitely nice, but it would be even nicer if it was usable in both directions.

Q17, Q27 terminal relocations

This can't be correct as written. First of all, does "terminal" refer to the drop-off location of the last stop of buses arriving at Flushing from Jamaica (currently on 39 Av between Main St and Prince St, along side the church), or to the lay-over location where the buses park between runs (currently on 38 Av between Prince St and Main St, along the other side of the church), or to the boarding location at the first stop of the route (currently on Main St between 39 Av and Roosevelt Av)? Perhaps for some bus routes the "terminal" is the same for all three, but for the Q17 and Q27, the last stop, lay-over spot, and first stop are at three different locations.

If the new "terminal" on 138 St represents the new last stop and the new first stop in addition to the lay-over spot, there will be lots of complaints, and rightly so, since that location is much further from the subway than the current locations.

My understanding is that the re-route means that the buses arriving in Flushing from Jamaica will turn right onto 39 Av from Main St (instead of left, as they do now), and drop off the riders right there, at the corner of 39 Av and Main St, next to Chase bank. Then the (empty) bus will turn left onto 138 St for its lay-over, then turn left onto 37 Av and left onto Main St to begin its route at the current first stop. I hope this is what will happen.

If the M12 is successful then it's to end the M10/20 split and make one route as it was in years past.

Also time to restore the M104 to 42nd Street as well.

I can't wait until the winter season. When the snow falls, that hill is NO joke. Be interesting if the Q17 and Q27 will handle that. In my opinion, it's steeper than the hill on Prince St between 39th and 38th Avs.

The Q114's timetable is up. I'm surprised by how late the Limited is running.

It's probably just as steep as Roosevelt Av between Main St and Union St, which lots of buses handle all the time. And it's not as steep as 188 St north of Hillside Av, a regular part of the Q17 route.

Re: Gateway Mall Extension

You're SOL if if you want the Site Drive or the Junction bound B83 @ Erskine. The Site Drive stops was apparently scrapped & the Erskine Street/Gateway Drive stop Junction bound is missing.

Yet, you can track buses at these physically nonexistent stops

You both had one job each. Fucking D-minus DOT & MTA

M12 is a welcome addition to the west side. Based on the bustime stop listings it looks like the M12 will not stop at West 57 & 7th Ave but it does pass it. Seems like a waste to skip this stop as many people wait there for the M31 or M57 to get to the Hospital, John Jay College and CBS on 10th Ave. M12 would take a load off the crowded rush hour 31/57.
