Just found Nycta1972 t6h-5309a #6000 for sale in southern calif by www.sellabus.com. it still has gleason front rollsign installed still runs and is in blue/white livery. I remember driving this bus when it was originally assigned to flatbush. Great bus to drive. Did many miles with this and its brothers on flatbush runs. Not a bad price on it either

That's awesome. I would hope that the TA would be interested in reacquiring this bus, restore, and add to historical fleet. IMO, it would make a great addition to the fleet as it currently doesn't contain any of the T6H-5309A/10A. Not to mention it being the first bus in that '72 T6H-5309A group (6000-6349).

Those who could make this happen probably should be made aware that this bus is available.

I don't think NYCT is willing to pay $6,500+ shipping, to get back their own bus!

Now if somebody wants to donate $$$$$$$.............

Wonder how the bus is shipped ? Is it driven cross-country or put on a carrier.

Also wonder what the costs for each alternative? I know that in late 2005 or early 2006, I had a Toyota Camry shipped from the LA area to Long Island. It cost about $1,000 including door to door pick-up and delivery by two truck, not driving it to a pick up place and getting to the delivery spot.

I realize that there is now ten years of inflation and that a bus cannot be put on a car carrier and achieve the economies of scale.

I agree, the TA had planned to save a 96 Orion but they cannibalized the bus by mistake. Maybe they could use the resources to restore that bus to bring this one back to NY.

Only issue is HOW would the bus get back to NY. I mean, I doubt this bus can do a cross country road trip at highway speeds at its age, I guess they could bring it back via Flatbed Truck or Aircraft.

NYCTA's Blitz project was for 350 buses which of course used buses from the TDH-5303AC, T6H-5305A, and T6H-5309A/10A. The TA gave the others mini rehabs in-house.

Since this was sort of an emergency after the TA/OA Grummans were withdrawn from service... I always suspected that they selected the worst of these buses to be sent to Blitz, while others were done in-house.

I have no value about the value/market value of the bus, but I imagine if the TA is interested in getting the bus... They'll pay to get it done.

It's part of Loren Joplin's collection - gmbus.com. He also had 6920 but it has been scrapped.

A quick glance at Loren's website shows many buses either scrapped or sold, without any dates. The website has a copywrite date of 2000 and the last entry was a sale in 2011.

Wonder how many he has left, including #6000? Also I couldn't find any other model than the fishbowl. Is that all he kept ?

What a damn shame they scrapped an old Red and Tan fishbowl number 91 it was in pretty good shape look wise. Same as the old Public service of NJ fishbowl number 500a. It looked really good inside too.

Underbody rust perhaps?

Any bus usued for the purpose that bus was is suseptable since it does high speeds on main roads in the winter with all the road salts doing damage. If these parts were not properly cleaned during its' service life, by the 40 year mark the bus is toast for sure.

Does Orange Empire RR Museum have buses in their collections ?
Aren't they the ones that have several 2nd Av el cars ?
If true to both, send the bus there.

I remember riding them on school field trips in Jersey city in the 70's a great ride. Red and Tan sometimes the Orange and black bus lines too. I guess JC schools like the companies with colors in their names.

I feel lucky to have gotten a few rides on some of TNJ's SDM-5302 back in the day. Those buses were awesome, and it always seemed like the operator was having fun driving them.

IIRC, this was the first original blue bus. It was also the first GMC to have the exhaust next to the rear window. Finally I think the front tinted glass section above the windshield was a lt gray not green. Am I correct? It has been a long time. The before this bus was the 4400 series which IIRC did nto have the exhaust near the rear window, was naturally green in color and was the first with A/C.

DOn't know. I do remember the first factory blue GMC bus with A/c & the rear exhaust near the rear window.

On the Flexible side, I remember the first new blue but with a small rear window and the exhaust on the side of the window
