Yes it is. Very shortly others will follow. Lynx is right behind them (20 replacement buses could be CNG or Diesel, with the former being very possible).JTA in Jacksonville has also brought up the idea too and after MDT's order of Gilligs (around 32 or so are to be ordered), they will switch to buying CNG buses. |

This would be the second go-round with CNG for M-DT (Miami-Dade Transit). In 1992, they ordered 15 Flxible Metros which were to be test beds for various clean air fuels. 5 buses had CNG, 5 had methanol and 5 were clean air diesel (may have been particulate (sp?) traps. Each group of 5 was assigned to one of MDT's 3 divisions (Central, Coral Way and Northeast). I know that Coral Way had 9211-15, I think Central had 9201-05, which would have left 9206-10 at Northeast. I don't know which group had which fuel, as all this happened before I moved to So. Florida in 1998. I was told all this after the fact by my friend who was and still is a bus supervisor for MDT. Anyway, the tests didn't go all that well, and the buses were subsequently converted to regular diesel. They were still in their respective divisions when I arrived (I have a pic of 9215 on the 11 (Flager St) line taken at Government Center in early 1999, but by 2000, all of the 9200s ran out of Northwest and did so until they were retired in the mid-2000s.Emissions were never really a big issue in So. Florida as they were in other cities. In fact, the state of Florida eliminated the annual smog check inspection for private cars in mid-2000 (of course, after I had already had mine done that year) >:( (the curse of being born relatively early in the year, Florida car registrations expire on your birthday). |

Yeah, emissions wasn't really an issue around here, especially throughout the state itself. As for your question, you're going to find that information via this link.http://www.miamidadetransit.com/9200page.html Lynx use to have 16 CNG buses (six of which were 30 foot Orion Vs that ran on local routes, while the rest were 35 foot New Flyers that ran on the Lymmo route for their entire careers). The end of the CNG program came in 2009, due to high maintenance costs. The Orion V CNGs were retired in 2005, before the mass retirement of the diesel Orions and 1994-1995 Phantoms. The CNG New Flyers went between 2008-2009. Looking at how Gillig now does CNG, it appears we may give it a shot again. If not this year, than it could be next year we could see CNG buses again. |

Thanks, lol, I forgot about that page. It was made by my friend the bus supervisor who I mentioned in the earlier post. At least I had the division breakdown correct :) |
