If the MTA does not raise the fare by at least 7.5% this year, they can expect a bond rating downgrade. Good luck building ANYTHING new for a while. They are hurting for new buses. They need to get serious about getting everything older than 14 years out the door tomorrow. |

The problem with that is they can't scrap anything right now... There's NOTHING to replace what they would scrap yet...Until a new order comes in th best thing they can do is continue to shift buses around where they see fit... There's even NEW stuff crapping out right now because they are running them into the ground (C40 CNGs) The Hybrids in the outta boroughs aren't doing so well either (mostly Queens) But there's NOTHING in storage (ECH) that can replace anything right now They scrapped the 1996 Orion V's because of rotten frames... 1995 RTS for the same reason.. Preserved some 1996 RTS's which are now being put back in service... The 1998-99 D60HF's are literally on there LAST leg which is why they just returned to the Bronx.. ( it was stupid to send them to Queens in the first place because they were dropping like flies) So they go back uptown to be further preserved by depots who know how to work on them.... They scrapped damn near every Orion V CNG due to rotten frames and recertifying the CNG tanks would've been too costly for a bus that not gonna last anyway... What else can they really do ????? But wait until the NEW artics come in And the NEW LFS's and Xcelsiors come in |

That's always a good idea... They just have to find another system who uses the same specs... That's gonna be the tough part... MTA is very funny with there specs (Engines and Seating) One min they want something next min they don't so if they can find another system who's buses are similarly spec'd then that could be an alternative |

It would not have been an issue if they stuck with the 7.5% fare increases or had not delayed the fare increase by three months. That $90M could have bought 210 40' buses. |
