South Jersey NABIs coming up North

I can think of a few reasons why it is here in North Jersey, but today I rode NJ Transit's Camden division NABI #5798 on route 770 from Garden State Plaza to Paterson. On the curb side it had a Camden Community College advertisement and on the street side it had a Mc Donald's Fish Sandwhich ad, in which no Bergen and Passaic county buses don't have. Inside the bus I saw some Key Cards ads with a Pennsauken address.

At first I thought it was a NABI from Big Tree Garage because of the curb advertisement. Paterson Garage NABIs don't have a reddish curb ad. Then I notice the first two numbers from a distance 57?? in which I thought automatically Big Tree Bus until it got closer when I saw the ad. and boom...Camden.

Market St. Garage has been helping out on the 126 line. Meadowlands Garage have loaned Paterson Garage at least 3 of their buses, #5895-5897. There's been a lot of bus movement lately, in particular southern division's NABIs moving up north. Is NJ Transit short of buses or something comrads?

Yes 6236 and 6237 have been on the 84 lately with southern ads.

Similar to NYCT, a mileage thing?

Sharing the abuse on the buses since operational/traffic conditions are much harsher in these parts?

Actually 5797/98 were originals to Big Tree. They came down south [along with Ironbound's 5639/40 (later 5641 was exchanged with 5640]because MCI's were being swapped around because of shortages at Howell [CNG retirements and the Designline fiasco]and flood damaged buses at Oradell.

Have no idea why Egg harbor's 6200's went up north though.

Sounds like NJT needs a new temporary bus lease again. They are bursting at the seams during rush hour. ABC would be more than happy to whip up 25-50 buses.

5797 and 5798 were original Hilton Buses not Big Tree. 5797 was a Training bus then transferred to Washington Twp and they are now transferred to Meadowlands Garage. 5807 also from Hilton Garage and 6236-6237 from Egg Harbor Garage were also transferred to Meadowlands Garage as well.
5226, 5278-5281 were transferred to Fairview Garage from Meadowlands. This is the reason why Meadowlands has the loaners.

I wonder if advertisers get refunds if the buses with their ads are sent outside their market area.

NJ Transit prematurely retired majority of their RTSs in which most of them were in good working condition. Why can't they have an emergency bus storage kinda like WMATA( D.C. METRO)? Rather than leasing buses from another company, they should bring back into service the remaining RTSs from Orange Garage, and IBOAs (A&C and Broadway Bus) from the dead lot. I can't see them put in a Clevers device in a lease bus

Man, sure wish them new MCIs would come in quick. I haven't heard any news lately of the demo that was suppose to be in this time.

NJ Transit has a tendency of having ads on their buses passed their expiration date. Seasonal ads, State Fair ads, some still have the Superbowl Pepsi ads, tax ads ect.

They ARE putting RTS buses back on the road where they used to be. However, NJT knows that regular bus replacement keeps their costs down. I think the only reason that they are behind the curve is because their bank account MIGHT have been raided. I also think that a discussion is taking place on whether to order 40 foot MCIs or suburban NABIs for some routes in the next round. Would NABI build 200 more buses on a no bid option at the same price? Probably.

Nope no such option exists. They will have to go low floor unless they go for 40ft MCI's.
