Coach USA/Shortline bus crash w/ truck in Albertson, Long Island... 1 dead, 2 injured

One person is dead and two others injured when a Coach charter bus and a pickup truck collided on Long Island Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at Roslyn Road and Heathcote Drive in Albertson around 9 a.m.

The collision sent the bus careening into a tree.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were only two people on the bus at the time, and it took more than an hour to remove them from the vehicle. One passengers was being treated for minor injuries, while the bus driver had to be extricated using the jaws of life. He was brought out the side of the bus and taken away on a stretcher.

It appeared the bus hit the truck head on, and witnesses say the truck was speeding and swerved into oncoming traffic.

It is unclear where the bus was heading at the time of the crash, and the identity of the truck's driver has not been released.

Roslyn Road was closed in both directions between IU Willets Road and Robbins Drive due to the accident, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The bus would likely have been a Hempstead-Monticello local.

It was the 715am from New York to Patchogue.

Bus actually originates in Patchogue.

He was still on his way to Patchogue. The bus actually originates in Suffern runs local to the PABT then operates drop off only Patchogue.

Are the runs to & from Long Is. now operating through NYC PABT?

According to news reports,accident happened around 9:00a.m. Short line's online schedule shows an 8:18a.m.departure from Hempstead going to Monticello. Seems that was the trip involved in the accident(probably running late due to rush-hour traffic coming from Patchogue).

It was the 715am from the PABT. I know who the operator is and what his run is and even done that particular schedule during training and my time on the extraboard. The schedule from the PABT to Long Island is not timed right so the bus is always way behind schedule heading out there in the morning.

There are two schedules from the New York to Patchogue in the morning. 550am and 715am. These are converted deadheads....usually they head out empty. I was shocked he had anybody, any time I done those early AM Long Islands I've basically deadheaded to Patchogue.

What time is that trip scheduled to lv. Patchogue on the next upstate trip? Also-on the Long Is. bound trips-is Hemp. made first,then Min/Carle Pl?

Looking at the duty board it turns the 1156am out of Patchogue to Monticello. That's why nobody rushes because no matter how late you are running out there you still get a 2+ hour break.

For the 2 schedules coming out of the PABT, Hempstead is the first stop than Mineola, schedules coming from Sullivan County make Queens Village first the Hempstead. All stops on the island are drop off only going out to Patchogue.
