Text of the complaint:
At 7:50a.m., this morning, Wednesday, Nov. 27, two Select-Bus-Service B44 buses crossed each other (one going northbound, the other southbound) at Ave Y and Nostrand. The total amount of passengers on both buses combined was 0 (zero).
Meanwhile, many were standing at the local bus stops (both directions at the same intersection) in the rain needing service.
Select-Bus-Service on the B44 needs to be completely retrofitted, or else eliminated. While I continue to believe that SBS should be a complementary service to existing transit (not a replacement of an entire line, such as the B44 limited), and does not need to follow existing services, the existing SBS service on Nostrand Ave should be adjusted so that those who live near extreme ends of the line (south of Ave U and north of Flushing) should be able to most benefit from SBS. That would mean having SBS make local stops in these sections, as the B44 limited used to do.
If this cannot be arranged, the proposal of B44 Select-Bus-Service should be eliminated and, in the future, more common-sense proposals should be put into place.
Select-Bus-Service should be used to complement the subway system and other existing transit. In Brooklyn this is best accomplished by an east-west SBS line, not a north-south one as is the B44.

Doesn't the SBS stop at Ave. X/Nostrand?

Why not walk a block for SBS?

One person I talked to was going to Ave R.
I would imagine her situation was representative of others' as well.

The point of SBS as far as NYCT is concerned is for the authority save money and force riders to walk an extra block or 2 to access the service.

Unless they add more local service, i think the least they could do is add back 2 stops that had a bus transfer to take off some of the pressure on the local.

Thing is it's not simple to add 2 stops anymore. Now to add stops you have to install equipment, as opposed to simply asking the DOT to adjust the bus stop signage.

The B44 Limited worked fine and everyone knows it. Technically people outside the central zone (Flushing Ave to Ave U) now no longer have to worry about changing buses once they get a local (if their destination was not a limited stop) and that could be a benefit to the new system, but how many people is that? And how many passenger minutes is SBS saving beyond the old limited?

REALLY?

The SBS makes NO STOPS between FLUSHING AVE AND DEKALB...NO STOPS between DEKALB and FULTON..NO STOPS between Fulton and St John..no stops from there and Empire Blvd..no stops between there and Clarkson..no stops from there to Church..etc.
in each case..its far more than a few blocks.

You're blowing this up. Look at my original premise. You are correct. What I was responding to was the pax could walk one block from Ave. X from Ave. Y.

i got you..but my point was in this case..there is no easy way to access this route if you don't live near a station..with transferring issues set up the way they are..especially in north Brooklyn..
quick fixes can be made to make using the line easier..if this is going to work.

It isn't about time savings, it's about capacity. Te artics can accompdate more people, the 40' buses are packed. I'd have just prefer them adjusting the limited service to be more spread apart and make it exclusively artics. That way no loss of limited for riders north of flatbush av and the limited stops south of flatbush are all intact.

SBS is about time savings because they can have artics without SBS.
