Good vs. Bad Bus

Besides no A/C or loud brakes, how can you tell if a bus is a good one or a bad one? A driver once told me he prefers two specific buses because they run good and are fast, I don't understand the difference?

Engine capability for one thing. If you're holding down the gas pedal on a straightaway and aren't getting over 20 MPH. . .
(I've been on buses in service and seen this happen).

Good acceleration and braking performance is key, of course, but really it's anything that necessitates extra effort and/or from the operator, IMO.
