I've ridden it twice from the Hunt. park & ride r/t to NYC. Carried bet. 2 & 5 passengers total. Considering it's potential, esp. from the Rt. 110 area,I don't understand why it isn't doing better. Then again,I don't think most people know about it. There's no signage or info at either the Huntington or NYC stops. A good idea would be to put flyers on the windshields of cars in the park & ride. By the way, this service is being run by Classic Coach with ex Hampton Luxury Liner buses. |

They wrapped the HLL buses for the Winter - they will get new buses if the service proves its worth by the end of the summer. One of the issues they have is what they can/cannot do to market aganist the LIRR - but they're finding their stride. The 800+ Travelzoo deal tickets sold is a testament to it. It will take time. Not just about awareness, but the fact that commuters have to reserve tickets. It's a really hard learning curve to overcome, but they'll get there. |

Does Bolt allow walk-ups on this route, and what would the fare be?Would they be allowed to have standees? If so they should encourage people to show up without reservations. I understand standees are illegal on intercity routes, but are allowed on commuter express buses. What's the dividing line? Is it an interstate issue? (Do NJT routes to NYC allow standees?) Is there a code to get the discount mentioned in the original post? |

I don't think its an interstate issue, NJT carries standees into NYC all the time. Its a matter of what the bus is rated for, a transit bus is almost always rated for standees while coaches aren't. (I don't think MTA expresses are allowed to carry standees unless dispatch authorizes it because of extenuating circumstances)Bolt allows walk ups if the bus isn't sold out-the fare would be the highest cash fare available. When I took it to Philly, I remember the driver filled every empty seat with cash fares, and had to leave a few behind. |
