Make sure you or somebody get pics of those buses. When they're out in service, let us know about the riding and driver experience behind those vehicles. Thank you! |

I was told that they are changing the mirrors on them from the hang down type to one like on the MCI's. The Driver don't like the new ones. And yes I will let you know how they ride. They must be better the the older MCI. |

They (NJ Transit) should've done what MTA is doing: Bus evaluation program.Should've awarded small contracts to MCI and Prevost also for CNG 45 footers. Evaluate each bus from from it's respected bus manufacturer for a couple of months. See which bus out performs the levels from all expects; therefore, from a driver's view, passenger's view, maintenance view and collectively as a whole. I can see it now that heads are turning from the drivers in Howell bus facility. Can't wait for you guys to tell me the expressions of the passengers faces... that'll be interesting! |

The older MCI are falling apart. Monday the driver lower the bus to let someone off. WE almost to did not leave. The air dropped and it almost did not come up. |

NJT doesn't need an eval period, that would just confuse them since they make up their mind long before the first bus is built. Then, usually, they'll get two prototypes which they will keep but make changes to, as well as changing the order. They also have a habit of buying buses from manufacturers who subsequently go belly up. The best cruiser type buses they've bought were the D4000/4500's. The best transit buses were the Nova's. But, as when they bought NYC's Flxibles, "anything can be repaired". This way they never have to admit the bought junk because they didn't do a proper prepurchase eval. |

Remember, NJ Transit leased some older (1998) MCI 102DL3 models which had the one door piece. The buses were for Howell garage and later NJT put destination signs on them. They were the first coaches numbered 7101-7120. |

The 1 piece entrance door does not work well in a commuter operation. The 20 leased MCI's were only used on certain routes with minimal stops in order to reduce the possibility of injuries and property damage. With federal funds an issue, the lowest bid requirement does not allow NJT or any other entity to be selective unless the low bidder has a proven inferior product. I was told that the "Design Liners" were $20K per bus cheaper than MCI. |

The door on the prototype (from the PR photo that was posted somewhere around here) appears to be the type of sliding door that you find on those Dina Motorcoaches or NABI 60-BRTs.The bi-fold doors on the current NJT MCI fleet (at least the ones in Southern New Jersey) are actually quite terrible from a passenger perspective...in my opinion. |

I never did get to rode those temp MCI's... and I do remember seeing them on the 167 and 320. Were they ever used on the 319? It would seem routes like that and the 551 would've been the ideal routes to use them on: limited stops so the door wouldn't be an issue, and they were already lavatory equipped IINM. |

Then the Meadowlands traded 7103 for 7120 because 7120 had a Wheelchair lift. Those buses at the Meadowlands were used on the 128 129 166 167 319 and 320 lines. 7111-7120 were Howell buses. These buses were fast as hell but they had a ton of flaws esp when they all came to the Meadowlands without Air Conditioning. NJT but alot of money into all them damn buses. I drove a few and they were interesting buses cause they were all different, none were the same. |

The one piece door being referred to on the Dina's and Neoplans is called a BODE door manufacured for the industry by the Bode Corp. in the Carolina's. It's a good door for a Charter or Tour operation but not for scheduled service because it operates too slow. The bi part doors on NJT's MCI's open or close in 4 seconds. They originally operated much faster but had to be re timed because people were getting caught between them. |
