Montgomery is reviewing options for recouping some of the money lost by having to take 62 buses out of service five years into what is typically a 12-year life span, Bowring said.Don't cutaways have a shorter lifespan than 12 years? |

I thought the FTA lifespan for a cutaway was 6-7 years and 250-300k miles. If any agency knows how to get the most of a cutaway, it's Ride On. Their 2001-02 El Dorados were only retired last year. They were in poor shape towards the end but they were able to make their runs on a regular basis. |

I think it depends on the type of cutaway. The "heavier duty" ones that are built on a truck chassis like Ride On's recent cutaways should last at least 7 years if I'm not mistaken. |
