Selling rollsigns on EBAY

I want to sell some bus rollsigns on EBAY, and I contacted SubwayAl.
I think he will cut them up , and I don't want that to happen to them.
I posted years ago that he was a good dealer and started his auctions at reasonable prices, but that seems no longer the case.
Transit items have become out of reach to the average person.
Is there anyone on here who would be willing to sell them for me?
Send an email address.
Thanks. You have an idea where I live.

Rollsigns are very difficult to sell at the moment. I've sold many in the past but the market has really dried up. It is a very time-consuming process and in the end you probably actually lose money. First, you have to photograph the entire roll if you want your potential buyer to see the contents and quality. The rollsign is generally photographed in short segments for best results. This is a long, time-consuming process depending on the length of the roll. You need a place to horizontally place the roll for best results, and must use a good camera. If you do not have sharp and clear pictures of the entire roll, your chances of selling it may be greatly reduced. Then, you must post each picture individually in the order of the rollsign. After placing it on eBay, you hope for the best. If it is sold, one must find circular tubing to mail it - long tubes are not easy to find. Then you have to take it to the post office or other shipper, hope it arrives safely, and pray the customer likes it, or it can be returned, Not a job for an amateur....

I had one gentleman who wanted me to sell his rollsigns but his requests were ridiculous. In addition to placing them on eBay, he wanted DVDs made of the; another one who requested my assistance not only wanted DVDs but HO and O scale printouts, but didn't want to pay for them! Yea, sure....

I found this one on ebay years ago. It was off of a old Gm bus for Somerset bus lines in NJ. It has many more routes on it other than the photo shows.

Anyone purchasing it would most likely want to see the entire roll before placing a bid or purchasing it.

Do you want to sell them to SubwayAl or do you want him to sell them for you and give you the money?

If you want someone to sell them for you I presume that you will offer them a commission and cover all of their eBay and PayPal fees. If you find someone willing to do that for you then you can tell them what price to start the auction at and whether or not you want the sign cut up.

BTW if signs are in good condition Al does not cut them up. The rolls that he cuts up are in poor condition and he salvages what he can. There is a market for individual routes or destinations.

It was your responsibility to set a minimum or reserve price, otherwise, you can get screwed, as obviously you did. I take many items on consignment, the seller and I agree on a minimum price, and no one gets hurt. Auction selling can sometimes be quite complex. Give the job to a person who has a good reputation on eBay or any other auction site, or do it yourself. But be certain you take good, sharp clear photos of every section of the entire sign.

He did NOT contact me about when he was putting them up for sale.
If I had seen that, I would have bid on it myself.
He got the hang of it by the 10th rollsign getting about 170.
Yes, it was probably my fault for not keeping in contact with him, but i thought he knew what he was doing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong or don't understand your statement. You gave the signs to the gentleman and requested they be listed on eBay. However, you did not enter into any agreement as to minimum price, time to be listed, etc. Thus basically you gave him the freedom to do what he wanted with the signs, and he would give you a percentage of what was sold. Is that correct?

Whenever I take things to sell for another individual (my eBay site is jpspcc699 and over the next few weeks will be offering many NYC area items for sale, such as books, slides, negatives, maps, including the brand new never-unfolded extremely rare 1974 Vignelli one, old/rare documents, etc.) we agree on all details of a sale. This way there are no misunderstandings with either party. I've been on eBay for about 13 years and did auctions by mail for many years before that, thus I feel I can speak with a bit of experience. My eBay rating is 100%.

Then my only suggestion is to find someone with a good eBay rating who is willing to sell your signs. The work involved in preparing and listing roll signs is very difficult, and the financial rewards, if any, usually are very low.
