CDTA Albany County Route Restructuring Phase 2 Partial Unveiled

Posted by BusRider on Sat Jul 21 20:27:49 2012

Just got word today, the 29,70,82,and 90 have been finalized for the worst.
New Routes:

70 becomes 370 extended back to RPI like old times.

90 becomes a 3 digit route, number is unknown at the moment and will be moved to Albany Division. The new routing is Lathem Farms between Crossgates, Lathem Farms to Wade Road(no more highway), proceed over to Wolf, regular route to Collins Circle, when leaving Collins Circle come out normal to left on Fuller over to Western, and enter Crossgates the way the 10 does. It is an hour and ten minute route with no layovers at Lathem Farms just drop off and proceed on.

29/82 combined into a 3 digit route as well. Troy to Cohoes then it has entirely new route in Cohoes, I only know instead of taking right on Columbia at Stewart's its going to take a left to the St. Agnes Highway I guess its called, then proceed to Lathem Farms, once reached Siena it will make a left on 378 to 377 back to Memorial Hospital then regular route to Downtown Albany, it is going to be an hour and 23 minute route.

They sent a Troy driver yesterday and today on the new 90 route to mark the time-points on how long it would take to drive this new route by bus.

What?
Removing the 90 from the Northway gonna make it even longer than it was...bet there wont be any change to the "every hour" service..
The "new 29/82" is what the ran back in the day as specials..its cool though...
I'd say moving the 90 out of Troy garage is a mistake..

They feel its gonna pick up new people being the Shuttles are going to be eliminated, they want the 90 to be a city route. Troy wants to keep the 90 but if you think about it, it won't operate near the Division at all. One of the new stops is Colonie Town Court or Hall what ever is out there I can't remember.

Yea back in 2004 the 29/82 was combined scheduling wise, but nobody to the public knew it. I have the paddles from that year showing it. With that being reinstated and this new 90, these runs are going to be big bucks. Do you remember when the 70/90 were combined?

The 80/85 consolidation has been postponed.

I never knew Wade Rd went all the way to the airport, I thought it was a deadend.

Is it going to serve Stuyvesant Plaza? This might be kindof cool...

No highway kindof sucks, but if they're trying to make it a "city route" and it's now Albany division, maybe it will be the 190 and run half hourly? If they're eliminating the airport shuttle, the 90 being the only bus serving the airport would be nice, as it might force Sunday service. UAlbany getting direct airport access is nice as well.

The 29 keeping its Rt. 9 routing makes me happy too. If my understanding is right this isn't as terrible as it could have been...

The only downside I see is RPI and the rest of Troy are now cut off from the malls...

There use to be a few 29/82 buses combine runs outta downtown troy way back when..Use to see em all the time..especially at night when the rush period was done.

the Wolf Road shuttle was always a pain in the butt..so removing it is a good thing in a way..but it is going to make the ride longer than it was.
The 90x should be kept for rush hours service.

How often will the new #370 run?
Will the new #370 run from Liberty Park to RPI?

Most likely in troy.
I dont see why they would change the 70 route much from what it does now.

Actually I am kind of glad that the #90 will run on Wade Rd.
Last summer, there was a job posting at the NYS Division of Military and Naval Affairs and I could not apply for the job because there was no bus service on Wade Rd.
It is too far to walk there from Rt. 7.
This will make it easier if another job comes up there in the future.

Actually it kind of makes sense that the #90 will no longer go to Troy.
Right now, the #70 and #90 run duplicate routes on the section of Rt. 2 between Latham Farms and Downtown Troy.
In fact, the #90 running to Troy has prevented the increase of service on the #70.
Now that the #70 will be the only bus on Rt. 2, there will be a greater demand for more service.

All that matters to me, is that I can still get between Schenectady and Albany, by taking the #70 and #29. (I personally chose to avoid the #905, #355 and the #1 - I do not like any of the Rt. 5 buses because they are too busy with riff-raff).

With the new changes, I will be taking the #70 from Schenectady to Latham Farms, then transferring to the new #29 (3 digit bus) to get to Downtown Albany.

I'm not sure if the new 90 will serve Stuyvesant maybe cause its right there and it adds new market for ridership but I don't cause of timing. As of right now the 90 is staying in Troy, but as of yesterday Albany started another fight in taking it. It makes sense cause like I've said it will no longer go near Troy, but Troy Drivers don't wanna loose runs especially when there gonna have real good pay.

There changing the 737 as well to work with the new 90. The 737 basically duplicates the shuttle after Wolf Rd.

The 39 Route 9 routing is the same until Osborne Rd, Loudenville Rd South will be eliminated. I looked it up today as well, but the new 29 will no longer travel on Bought Rd and Route 9 north of Lathem Farms, its gonna use the St Agnes Highway when reaching Baker Ave to Johnson Rd.

Now that I think of it the new 29 could give way to eliminating the weekday only route 116 it makes almost 100% sense.

The new 370 will be the same Liberty Park to RPI, your right it does cut RPI/Troy but now we just have to transfer all over again like years ago. Also by doing this its still the same traveling time so I don't know if its a win-win. I always felt it should have been the opposite have 370 stop at Lathem Farms like the 355 stops at Colonie and make the 90(keep it a trunk route one digit) and run local like it does now on Route 2. If RPI students didn't go to SUNY for classes and SUNY students didn't need access to Colonie Center, I strongly think the 90 should skip UAlbany, you got 12,114,and 712 all running in there and ALL going to the SAME spot.

There was no word on the 22/35x changes, that were once on the drawing board, until I here more these routes have been postponed as well.

Funny you should say that. The current situation works best for keeping time with UAlbany on the schedule. Crossgates bound 90 drivers can (and do) skip UAlbany if they are significantly late on time, and passengers bound for UAlbany can stay on through Crossgates when they hit it on the way out. Since the new routing isn't the same as the 12, you may have people at UAlbany waiting specifically for the 90, so that can't be done anymore.

So the #737 will still run between Downtown Albany and Rt. 7 & Vly Rd?
That will be good, it will still give me another option to get to Albany, I can ride the #70 out to Rt. 7 & Vly Rd, then transfer to the #737 to get to Albany if I wanted.
So the new #29 will be called the #139?
I still do not understand why they are elimiating service on Rt. 9 between Albany Memorial Hospital and Rt. 378, that does not make sense.
Won't the new route be longer if the new #29 goes Rt. 378, to Rt. 377, instead of staying on Rt. 9?
Regarding the #90, the #90 needs to continue to stop at UAlbany for UAlbany students who live in Schenectady.
Since there is no direct bus between UAlbany and Schenectady, it is easiest for UAlbany students to take the #90 to Colonie Center, then transfer to either the #905 or #355, or take the #90 to Latham Farms and transfer to the #70 to reach Schenectady.

Nobody knows what the numbering will be yet, only the 370.

They want to serve the new apartment complexes along 378 and 377 to attract ridership, like I said possible allowing them to eliminate the 116, to give Albany more room to work with these new runs and still making it better for customers with this new schedule. I said it will be longer the new 29 will be an hour and 23 minute route.

I don't know about the 737, I'm in Troy Division, that's based out of Albany. I rode it ONE time the very last trip 5pm from Downtown, and majority of the ridership got off at Northern Blvd, I was the only one on the bus from A street (don't know the name) between Osbonrne and Maxwell all the way to Vly Rd. From Northern Blvd it was only 3 people, and we did a complete circle in Corporate Woods where nobody was even there not even cars.

As far as the 90, the 90 really hasn't skipped it due to time since the 114 was created, and yes it does need to serve UAlbany cause its the only connecter between the two main drags. I only say that because I'm in Troy so I feel it makes it even longer when were not really picking up or dropping off AS much before the enhanced 12, 114, and 712.
