Good for Joe.

And why and how does the City of New York own land in the City of Yonkers?

NYC DOT subsidized the MTA take over and still 100% subsidizes MTA Bus. The property was purchased as a part of the takeover of Liberty Lines Express and is now an asset of NYC. I hope this dispelles all the rumors about Yonkers Depot going to Eastchester as of late.

Wouldn't sending the Yonkers operation to Eastchester solve the problem?

But then Yonkers wants the bus service, but also wants someone else to deal with the bus facility. NIMBY? I think so.

No, in order to deadhead from Eastchester it takes about an hour with roads availible to buses. MCI's cant use the Hutch, or Cross County. Not because of permits, but to to height on both parkways. Add an hour deadhead for the runs out of Riverdale & Getty Square and you now have raised operating costs signficantly. Also it doesn't appear to be NIMBYism as it seems to be the $25 Million for a facility. Lohta didn't mention the fact the development is a "multi-billion dollar" project for nothing. In the MTA's eyes, why should the MTA foot the bill for relocation and building a new facility or refurbishment of replacement if the powers that be want to help along a multi-billion dollar enterprise. The letter "screams" put up the money or shut-up if not, talk to King Bloomberg about it. BTW Yonkers only gets service from the BxM3, The BxM1,2,4&18 end at the city line.

The BxM1, 2, 3 (truncated to 262 Street) and 18 could all be housed at Kingsbridge (as the short-lived X61 was), but it would require a grand route shuffle and possibly the reopening of Amsterdam (or waiting until Mother Hale is completed) to make it happen. The BxM11 could move to Eastchester.

BTW, I find it interesting that the city sold Spring Creek and College Point to the MTA, but not Yonkers...you think that the city wants a do-over of that now? The real question is figuring out how to reassign the routes.

New York City owns thousands of acres of land upstate for the water supply system, why should this be any diffrent.

Leave the BxM3 at Getty Square, it is the only bus service on South Broadway on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is much cheaper than Metro North especially during the peak hours.
