The tail lights may be on when the ICC brake is up. But in the garage on level ground push the ICC BRAKE down..off.And recheck the tail lights...they could be off ! This has happened to me many times.

You leave a running bus with the ICC OFF to check the tail lights?
I would NEVER jeopardize my job, license or safety of my co workers to do something foolhardy like that! You had better chock the wheels or have someone in the operators seat before doing something silly like that! And if you are going to have an assistant, let HIM look while YOU sit in the seat.

And also open the doors with the control handle to activate the interlock! Just don't open the front door by releasing the air.

Activating the interlock by either opening the rear doors OR kneeling the bus, energizes the brake system which turns ON the brake lights.

That's correct. If the bus is properly maintained....

If the interlock DOESN'T apply the brakes, whether or not the tail lights are working is a moot point. The bus DOES NOT go out in revenue service!

All you have to do is put the master control on PARK position to check for taillights functioning without brake lights.

Or you can press on both directionals to activate all lights.
