I lived at 21st Street and 22nd Drive about 15 years ago and there were always people getting on the QM22 at 22nd Drive. The bus seemed to have a reasonable load in the morning. I don't know how many people used it in the afternoon. There were only 2 buses in the morning (one for 3rd Avenue and one for 6th Avenue)If you could use the buses and drivers for other routes the rest of the day or if you used part time drivers you might be able to make a route like this work. |

Why is the TWU so adamantly opposed to part-timers? As long as it wouldn't affect anyone who is currently employed I don't see the issue. In Boston the Carmen's Union fought against part-timers and lost. Now part-time bus operator or train attendant is the entry level job. You have to put in a few years as a part-timer before you can move up to full-time. Part-timers are members of the union so the union still gets its dues. |

Technically, this would be an ATU issue (not sure which local, though) as ATU represents MTA operators in Queens, IINM. That said, as good of an idea as it is, the unions would never allow it. |
