July 4 ran buses on Saturday schedule. The TA is trying to offically cut B49 service permantly.
B1 service for some reason is a bit better....though a little. I do see extra B1 runs deadheading out of Manhattan Beach. Their first stop is either Brighton Beach Avenue-Ocean Parkway or 86th street-Av U(in the other direction)-this was done to alleviate the issues with the B1 with the crowd it picks up in the am weekdays to the beach.
Service isn't going to improve anytime soon and i see this happening:

B4-PERMANTLY terminates at Ocean Parkway-Shore Pkwy(say bye bye wknd service)

B64-Bye Bye Weekend service.

B49-more service cuts.

It depends on the time of the day. Sometimes B49 service is better and other times the B1 operates better.

The B1 deadheads you see leaving Manhattan Beach sre going to Ocean Parkway to make a return trip to the College in the morning. In the afternoon, they deadhead to the college. Actually, they need to pick up passengers in both dorections most of the time. There are also deadheads to and from Ulmer Park, some using the Belt Parkway.

Why do you say they are trying to cut the B49 permanently? Is it because of the B44 SBS?

TA isn't trying to cut the 49 completely, and the it has nothing to do with the 44SBS. If anything, they could consider truncating to Foster & Flatbush Avenues, but as I said on NYCTF, that'll never happen -- too many folks rely on the 49 north of Foster.

No good alternative to the B49 north of Foster Avenue. Why is the B49 a target for elimination?

They could say that you already have the B44SBS on Rogers and move the local there too. Southbound, they will say the B49 is redundant because it s only one block from Bedford to Flatbush or two blocks to Nostand.

What about the B35 LTD? Is the "TA" trying to cut that one? Is it still around?

Bad idea... The problem with the B 49 is that ridership south of Foster has changed and north of Foster is unstable even with SBS B 44 coming.

Rogers Av gets ridership from the B 49, however the Bedford Av is more of a rush hour thing. And if you notice off peak hours once the B 49 reaches Flatbush Av in either direction it is a dramatic change, especially weekends and late evenings. South of Foster you can be either the only one on the bus or it is a handful Manhattan Bch bound it is a little bit better Bed - Stuy bound.

As a constant rider of the B 49, my opinion ia that the B 49 needs to be modify and run along Ocean Av. The B 49 ridership would improve dramatically if it happens. I suggested this in a past post, that they should experiment extending the B 48 to Foster Av via Bedford/ Rodgers and Classon.

Don't know what times you ride the B49, but empty buses south of Foster are certainly not the norm most of the time. In fact when I used to ride it occasionally during the midday, buses were usually crowded along Ocean Avenue with extremely heavy turnover which made the line run very slow.

I am not disputing that ridership north of Foster isn't even heavier. That's because ridership in north and central Brooklyn is heavier than in southern Brooklyn due to lower car ownership. There is definitely a market for both the B49 and B44 SBS. I agree that truncating the route would be a terrible idea and have advocated for over ten years to reroute the B49 straight along Ocean and east to Utica Avenue along with other changes.
