While the Phoenix bus contract will be the big order of the year (which should be awarded by June 1), according to this document:
http://www.valleymetro.org/images/uploads/board_minutes/Combined_TMC_and_RMC_Packets_for_Posting.pdf

RPTA should be getting 20 new buses, while Tempe should be getting 16. All buses wil be New Flyer buses.

I presume that the 20 RPTA buses will replace the Nova RTS fleet, while the 16 Tempe buses will replace additional NABI LFWs.

Looks like a little delay; the Nova replacements were in the FY 11/12 budget, now delayed to FY 12/13. These were listed as BRT-style in earlier documents.

Seven of the Novas have already been shown the door. Six of the CNG NABIs (RPTA) are also out. Tempe still has plenty of 1998/99 NABIs to replace.

I'd expect the RPTA buses will be either diesels or diesel-electric hybrids, since as far as I know the Glendale facility isn't equipped for CNG/LNG.

As for Tempe, I'd expect they will be CNG, LNG, or diesel-electric hybrids.

Yes, I am. Some of the Nova RTS are based there as well. A few express routes are based out of that facility.

Of course, there is the chance that more of the 2007 D40LFRs currently at Mesa could get transferred to Glendale while Mesa gets new CNG or LNG models.

Does RPTA still operate any LNG NABIs? Or have they all been transferred to Tempe?

Those had been moved to the Tempe garage when Tempe took over 72/81. I have not seen any on the road since the new Tempe buses were put in service last year.

Update: I just decided to give RPTA a call today, and confirmed that all of the new buses (both for RPTA and Tempe) will be C40LFRs.

The "Express/BRT" replacements are budgeted at $597K per bus...pretty steep for a C40LFR.

Next year's budget also includes 8 30-foot replacements for Scottsdale.

Trust me, the person from RPTA confirmed that the buses for both RPTA and Tempe will be 40-foot New Flyer low floor CNG buses, and will not be the Xcelsior model. That implies the C40LFR.

And yes, I asked him if they will replace the Nova RTS fleet, and the person I spoke with said that is the current plan.

Between the RPTA and Tempe buses, I am guessing the way to tell the difference would likely be the destination signs, since RPTA generally uses TwinVision while Tempe generally uses Luminator. I presume the fleet numbers will be 67xx.

FYI: I saw Bus 6703 heading S/B on I-17 at approximately Union Hills Rd at around 8:30 a.m. I'm not sure it it's an RPTA or a Tempe bus but it has the same color scheme and white LED destination sign as the 2011 Tempe C40LFRs.

Probably a delivery from Minnesota! I believe Tempe buses have the green colors (6680 et al), while RPTA is sticking with the (6668) color scheme.
