Are the six year old buses to be overhauled New Flyer products? Also, wow, interesting how it's time for the Optima buses to be retired already! How old are they? |

I think those Optima buses are about 6 or so years old. MTA Maryland and CTA were the only two major TAs I know that bought those. We got rid of ours a couple years ago. They just weren't durable with the streets that we have here. |

Optima used to promote their durability, but the ones I've ridden out in PA (BARTA, Red Rose, River City Transit) never seemed to be the strongest buses.Baltimore streets are extra rough, though. |

All those buses are the 2006-2008 New Flyer D40LFs they bought to get rid of the TMC RTSs and Flxible Metros. The Optima were I believe 2007 or 2008 but still to get rid of them that early says something about the service levels and product. |

I'd say the Optima Opus is okay; not as good as the ElDorado EZ Rider II series, but better than the Thomas/Dennis SLF and Blue Bird Ultra LF. |

Wow - CTA is going to have one of the newest fleets in North America.Interesting that they are getting rid of the LFS's as soon as possible after those buses reached the 12-year mark. The Flxible 6000's were 15 when they were retired in 2010 and they were sidelined only because of the massive service cuts that year. Montreal has also pretty aggressively retired its LFS's from the late 1990's. |
