Getting the cost of MCI's down may not bode well for Millennium's RTS express bus. I think Millennium was marketing the RTS as less expensive alternative to a coach bus. |

Well there is one less axle/wheel/tire/brake assembly to deal with when you lack a tag axle. Are RTS's any lighter or more fuel efficient than D4500's (or whatever they are buying) ? |

Much lighter, more fuel efficient, and much less expensive and only have 8 seats less than an MCI. The RTS will also have Allison's new Load-Based shifting transmission, which is the most fuel efficient Allison option to date. The current MTS buses running around are getting an unexpected 6MPG, and are more efficient than even Millennium thought they would be. |

The purchase is part of a larger agreement with MCI so they couldn't put out a bid that Prevost or any other coach manufacturer could conceivably win. The contract was reviewed by MTA's Audit Services group and found to be fair and reasonable (only $4k more per bus than the Prevost contract price). |
