With the closure of Orion, could KCM return to Gillig?

Now that Orion is closing, does anyone think there is the likely possibility that King County Metro may return to Gillig? From what I heard, the Orion order was due to New Flyer's huge backlog. However, now that Orion is closing, another manufacturer would probably like to fill in the void, and considering KCM has a history of ordering Gilligs, I would think that Gillig would want KCM back as a customer.

What does anyone here think?

KCM has purchased over the years from both Gillig and New Flyer, so it could go either way.

Then again, since the Orion order was out of left field, maybe they'll buy from Nova.

KCM is putting out a bid within the next week or so for 86 40ft and 55 60ft trolleybuses...New Flyer most likely will be awarded the contract because of non competition.

Wow - the Gillig Phantom trolleybuses are that old already?

Probably, but Skoda still builds trolley buses and has been willing to work with North American bus manufacturers in the past.

Also, aren't the components on the Gillig trolleys pretty antiquated. IIRC those were transplanted from the AMG trolleys back when they got the Gillig Phantom shells about 10 years ago. I do recall seeing a document about getting new trolleybuses within recent years with updated electronics. New Flyer will definitely get the trolleybus contract.
