NJT cruiser question ?

Since the oldest NJT MCI buses are 12 years old now, any idea when they may start a new order ? Not including the older 1998 CNG's.

That is an interesting question. NJT won't consider a new bus order until at least 2013 when the NABI bus order is done, so the cruisers will be around 14 or 15 when and if any replacements will come [how ever if Jabba-the-Hutt dcides to meddle in NJT's affairs, it might be another couple of years more till any replacemnts will come.]

The last batch of cruisers lasted 15 to 18 years and we all know how long the Flxible metro B's hung around [22 years],so NJT will keep the MCI's for a time longer. As for the CNG's, if the tank certification holds up, they will stay on the road.

CNGs will be retired next year; NJ Transit does not want to re-certified the CNG tanks.

Wasn't the Designline order that NJT was placed CNG's?

Let me rephrase that. I thought the Designlines were the new CNG's that NJT ordered. Check page 84 of this document. Even as they order them, the CNG tanks have to be recertified?

NJ Transit should have given the contract to Prevost. Man I'm telling you that these Designlines crap. They'll be next in line to leave the U.S. transit bus market. We all know that there's some really dumb folks in NJ Transit that can't select the RIGHT bus model for the next 15 years. I'm already tired of the NABIs as we speak.

If NJT did that, then they would be in hot water with the feds. They have to take the lowest bid, and Designline was the lowest bid.
