Orion, Hybrids & NYC

Three questions:

Is it not true that New York City's hybrid fleet is the largest of any US transit agency, and is entirely Orion built?

Since Orion is accepting no more new orders, does this mean the NYC abandons plans for any more hybrids in the near future?

Do Nova or NF currently have hybrid buses out for testing in NYC among the several mini-fleets of 90?

Right now, our entire hybrid fleet is Orion built. That will change this year or next, however, as there is an order of DE60LFs that should be awarded soon.

There are no Nova Bus LFS hybrids in NYC, but in Stamford and Hartford, there are hybrid Nova Bus LFS articulated buses.

Didn't NYC abandon hybrids in favor of low-emission diesels? Isn't the latest generation of Orions non-hybrid?

The latest Orion VII NGs are indeed diesel, but they're part of the BTE program.

There will be no more hybrids purchased. They are WAY too expensive to maintain and cause constant headaches/problems.

Those are not NG's. They are E10/3G's.

That is actually not true at all. MTA does plan to order more hybrid 40 footers in the future, as well as a current pending order for New Flyer DE60LFR's that has yet to be awarded.

Does it really matter, I mean its an extention of the Orion VII. and its not like there was a major stle change from the NG's to the 3G's.

But this is a board where some people think it is important to identify a GM bus as a TDH whatever. Although old look, fishbowl and RTS do suffice for most people.

Is the soon-to-be awarded DE60LF order one of the 90-bus orders or will this be a larger order similar to the Nova LF artic order now being delivered? Is there a site which tracks the official status of these things?

From what I can tell, "3G" is a busfan invention anyway. The Orion website just calls it "the third generation Orion VII."

There is two 90 bus orders for New Flyer articulated buses....
-DE60LF.... diesel hybrid articulated bus
-XD60.... "Xcelsior" clean diesel articulated bus
The status as of now... is on hold for a year to fix the corrections, etc.

Never mind that; there's a difference between Third Generation and third generation.

I think Orion's use of the 'Next Generation' term was done for marketing reasons anyways - officially, a 40-foot Orion VII has always been model 07.501, regardless of the styling.
