NICE changes not going great in Glen Cove

I have heard from many riders missing their connections in Roslyn between the n23 and n27. Then today I notice a late eastbound n20 makes passengers miss their n27 connection to Glen Cove in Greenvale at around 6:39pm. These people will be standing another hour for the next bus.

Don't you want MTA back?

NICE will continue to give you "material".

If you've been made aware of so many complaints, have you alerted NICE?

I have complained, they just said they had to make these changes due to the budget. Seems like a form letter...
"Dear John, Thank you for your email, we truely appreciate your feedback. under our contract with Nassau County we are obligated to operate within the budget the county provides.

As a result we have had to make difficult decisions regarding our service. We have done our best to provide the most coverage within Nassau and serve as many customers possible.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards,

NICE Customer Care"

I will complain again, maybe I'll get someone different. Sadly those riders didn't look like they were going to do anything about it, other than stand there for another hour. If I'm the only one complaining, I doubt they'll do anything.

The least they could do is have the drivers communicate to make sure these connections are made. The 27 should not leave before the 23 arrives. The N20 driver should alert the N27 if it is running late. It's the LEAST they can do.

What did you say to them in the first place? These changes are probably tolerable IF they make their connections. Nice said they were going to make sure connections were made.

The problem is the POS Radio system doesn't allow bus to bus communication like Suffolk Transit. This needs to change now..the radios are Erricson, and not Motorola like Suffolk.

I thought the drivers used to communicate, but then the MTA stopped it?

I told them that I thought their changes on the n27 weren't though out and that not all connections waited in Roslyn.
Of course after what I saw in Greenvale I wrote another complaint tonight. Bad enough they eliminate the n21 on weekends now those ppl get delayed another hour. At this point you're better off taking the LIRR, even if you're going to Flushing. Its more $$ but at least its faster.
I know it doesn't affect me but I used to live in Sea Cliff, and lived off the n21. And back when I took it every bus was at least half full. Of course things may have changed in the last 10 years.
I'd rather have seen Veolia eliminate failing routes outright, then what they did up there. But I know the 5 people in Massapequa that take the N81 need their bus...

Yeah that was awhile ago. Probably going back to the 90s. They used to have handset radios and then LIB got the crappy radios they are using now. Half the time they dont even work...ask the hound..

Those drivers should know that they have to wait for the connections, that's ridiculous.

So does the N80 get more use than the N81? The 80's may not be as bad because they don't run on Sundays. Some changes on busier routes may be to pay for the more costly routes

Where there are important timed connections among routes that operate infrequently, both arrival and departure times ought to specified on the timetable for such connecting routes. In addition, driver run cards should indicate that drivers are not to depart from such point until all specified buses have arrived and passengers have had an opportunity to transfer (unless, after a certain amount of time, a connecting bus still has not arrived, in which case the connection could be broken). Such a system would be appropriate in Roslyn.

Motorola is what Suffolk uses for their trunked system which Suffolk Transit is apart of, or so I'm lead to believed.

That's true, & some of the clever devices don't work either, preventing the use of the radio. You have to hit the rtt button to get command.

Well I just sent a letter to NICE CEO Mr.Setzer, email and snail mail, we'll see if I get a better response than last time.
The way things are going, I'd rather have MTA/Long Island Bus back at this point. Another thing that's not working are the destination signs, I see at least one bus with no signs altogether ecah day, and there's not even a paper sign telling ppl what bus it is.
You know we were close to getting decent bus service in Nassau County, then along came Mangano to take a poop on it and Schmitt to crush it...
