This seems to be a constant complaint as residents dont want the depot there. MTA tries to be considerate to neighbors but i feel like neighbors dont want bus garages anywhere in manhattan(didnt they have problems when 100th Street depot opened too)?B1-#8045-NOVALFS S93LTD-#7081-Orion 3G |

"MTA tries to be considerate to neighbors but i feel like neighbors dont want bus garages anywhere in manhattan (didnt they have problems when 100th Street depot opened too)?" The NIMBY crowd was there, too, with the same argument: The original depot was demolished, so the replacement depot is a completely "new" and "unprecedented" land use and thus evidence of environmental racism. Of course, that deliberately ignores history. There are bus depots in minority neighborhoods because minorities chose to move into bus depot neighborhoods. The depots were there first and the sites are still zoned for "manufacturing" (i.e. industrial) uses, so the rebuilding is purely "as-of-right" under the city's zoning code. |

In the 1985 documentary "Metropolitan Avenue", residents were angry about the *closing* of a bus depot, because they thought it would lead to reduced bus service. |
