They should, but thats what you get when you name a agency Long Island Bus even though it doesn't serve all of Long Island.Besides the committee that healed the hearings probably didn't listen to the people that attended. I mean everything that is said to go in effect on May 1st, was said when the announcement was made that there was possibly going to be a fare increase and that was back in November/December of last year. The only thing that was changed was the amount the fare would increase on the S92 and 10C, and that was announced back in January after people balked at having a fare increase of a whole dollar with in a year. There is only one group that is recognized by the Legislative Transit Committee, and its barley even a group, it just one rider who takes the opinions of other riders and reports what she hears to the committee. The group is so not known that the only way I found out about it was by reading about it in a Local Riverhead paper that did an article about how Legislator Schneiderman was upset that the fare increase was taken "his" fifty cents (for Sunday Service on other routes). Though I doubt it would have worked a second time. He also miss represented facts about the Sunday Service Program. (It was mentioned on here through Newspaper sources that the start of Sunday Service didn't do well, and it was reported that due to the need of Para Transit buses it went over budget) He only claimed the out come and not the problems at the start and he claimed that Sunday Service paid for itself. |

I can undersand that, how much actual demand was there for Sunday service besides a few transit advocates? I would say that Suffolk could have done a special Sunday initiation where they would just have the S1 run on Sundays. |

I have no idea, Legislator Schneiderman said that there were about 600 riders a day. I heard that without the Para Transit that Sunday Service paid for itsself. (It was reported on here and Legislator Schneiderman said that though never said if it included Para Transit)The S1 was probably listed on the first Sunday Service plan that the Legislators couldn't agree on and Former Executive Levy didn't approve of. |

For comparison's sake, the next highest route is the S45 at 29,444. Using SCT's 2010 weekday:Saturday ratio, it comes out to around 1,945 a weekday. |

I knew that the person was on here as well, I just couldn't remember your handle on here.I wonder why if the S1 had 48,613 riders total, why EBT keeps assigning a 40ft bus to the S54 and S63 (they also assigned an 40ft bus to the S57, but that was a one time thing I believe). Though thats assuming that every S1 run had the ridership to warrent a 40ft Bus. |

And it also has the lowest cost per passenger (I believe it was $1.99 on weekdays and $2.03 on weekends). That's roughly equal to one of the better-performing routes in Staten Island as far as the farebox recovery ratio goes (I think the average fare was something like $1.10, so it would be like say, the S44 in terms of cost-efficiency) |

(it had about two passengers per trip) |

The 9A went from Mattituck to Orient, though it used back roads unlike the S92.Probably was $7,000 a year, The snip it of the article only said that the county couldn't afford to run the route because it cost $7,000 per riser. Oddly enough back in the 70's (before Suffolk Transit) Coram Bus Service (for runner to the now defunct CBS Lines) asked Suffolk County for that same amount to help run one of their routes. I believe The route was the Smith Haven Mall to Smith Point route, which would go on to be the S74 and itself be cut in 1998 because of low ridership. |

It depends on things such as the length of the route and the frequency. If you had to run buses every 5 minutes to get 1,945 passengers, the cost would be much higher. And if you had to run the route all the way from Greenport to Huntington or something to get 1,945 passengers, again, the cost would be much higher. |
