The proposed plan is scaled down from the absurd original plan which would have required a major reconstruction of Hylan along with the elimination of parking spots in business corridors.Basically some the peak-direction No Standing zones will be made Bus Only lanes, which is what they really are now. |

Can't say no to extra service, so why not I can't wait to see the SBS S79 come to staten island. I wonder if this will mean 24/7 S79 service. Since Yukon closes after a certain time, the MTA could use buses from Charleston. And they should also run the S44, S61 & S59 later in to the night using castleton buses. |

If that were the case, the S79 would have to run local at night. It would be stupid to have buses skipping stops when they're spaced every hour apart. And the only thing I see the need for is a bus down Richmond Avenue. I've seen the last few northbound S59s of the night, and they can carry a decent load (maybe 10 people on the bus as it passes by, which isn't bad for that time. Obviously during the day it would be a different story) The problem is that the bus would probably have to serve St. George to get decent ridership. Oh well, then in that case, make the S44 a 24/7 route. The S79 covers the southern part of Richmond Avenue and the S44 covers the northern part. |
