You have the understand the climate of OA management the time she came up.
You still had a lot of dinosaurs from the 70's and 80's when she shot up. There was a lot of resentment becuase of it and of course her being a woman didn't help much either.
She was protected and anyone who got in her way were forced to retire or were transfered to other units, (EG. training school, boro transfer).
The job has changed very much in the last several years where you have many young educated people getting management positions who never came up the ranks. I really don't care and I help them out when I can because you sense that they really feel uncomfortable at times because of lack of knowledge. Being a buff I love my job and don't really bother with the politics or promotions. I'm just happy to be here and feel empathy for others like newbie dispatchers and outside managers.
I think there was an attempt to wash this away by demoting her but someone somewhere (126 st?) is probably going to get affected seniority wise by here coming back and they made sure the public found out.
Now she may be out of everything.

The issue is signing a offical time card and lying on it.

"MTA takes these documents very seriously."

They take seriously what they want to take seriously. When I started, 30 years ago. They gave me a car to take home and bring back to work. But guess what? If I needed it during the day for work purposes, I couldn't use it. I either had to take the train or try to steal a ride with someone else going to the same place. The TA is a joke. Some of the other things I know I'm too embarrassed to speak about publicly.

Thats how the Post got it!

126 St depot dispatchers are in the SSSA and pick differently than OA dispatchers.

Also being she is civil service she goes back to her last represented title.

As I said in another post I think TA was trying to sweep this away but someone in 126 St (SLD) wasn't happy.

Well its like post dispatcher tallies.

In school they tell us these are official documents and never to falsify them.

Once my tallies saved an operator from getting fired because a female customer claimed he sexually assaulted her but my tallies showed he was no where near where she claimed he was.

Managers technically are always on "the clock". They do not get paid by the hour so its moot, but she got caught falsifying records.

If she's been stealing time, then she's pretty lucky to just be getting demoted. I've been in the private sector for my entire career and I've heard of several who had lost their jobs for falsifying time sheets.

I see it now too. I personally think too many employees develop a sense of entitlement and seem to feel it's OK to sneak in late/sneak out early and so on.

What about someone who always arrives on time and leaves on time but does little or no meaningful work for their entire career. To me that is much worse than a conscientious person sneaking in late or leaving early. Most City agencies are no where as strict as the MTA when it comes to being on time. Isn't doing personal errands on work time stealing time? Yet that goes on all the time in middle management or higher. As I said they will only bother you for stealing time if they want to get you on something else.

If you listen to your boss, come and leave on time, don't drink on the job, and don't sexually harass anyone, you've got it made at the TA even if you never accomplish anything.

We've been getting a lot of MTA bus managers on our side and I can tell you they are nothing like NYCT managers.
A lot of them see how cut-throat our operation is and they get shocked in the head.
Guess the MTA/Privates were more like family operations they the prisons we run!

I agree that employers shouldn't carry dead weight either, but in the case of falsifying records... I guess it's easier to get rid of the person as it's often one of those things that will get someone terminated immediately. However, in the case of someone not doing their work, you have often have to build a case for termination through progressive discipline.

I said in the past and I truly believe that a huge part of the problem(s) is that there's no (or very little) accountability. If employees are consistently held accountable for their actions from the top to the bottom, it would clear up lots of problems.

Employee's of the "privates" worked for a man vs. a corporation.
It was a very one-on-one kind of experience, i.e. if you screwed up & the man got mad at you then you were in big trouble.
But on the other hand if you did your job & spent the effort to get along with your piers you were part of the team.
I have fond memories of spending time near Christamas at the man's house with my co-workers. When I first started we have a cook. The man wanted you all togather for lunch, not because he wanted to preach to you, but because he wanted you all to get along & socializing helped a lot.

Transit is a point fingers & cover your ass kind of place ... One of the main topics of the recent "Managers Meeting" was parterning ... we'll have to see if the culture changes in the ranks.
