Is that Gillig hybrid in the second photo part of the NYS Consortium order from around that time? (I'm assuming it was delivered circa 2008.)

Nice photos.

Nice.

Except for the Thomas and BlueBird school bus transit buses.

After experience on LACMTA's Thomas TL960s, I NEVER want to ride on a transit bus based upon a school bus ever again.

Glad U like the shots; thanx!
I think one reason the city died was its police dept.
I was visiting a friend up there in 2002 and decided to take a few pix of the restored theater in town. No less than 4 police people came up to me, basically surrounding me one by one, each questions me why I was photographing buildings. Of course 911 was still fresh in their minds.
Trying to reason that their city spent an untold amount of $$$ fixing up the old place so tourists and residents alike could enjoy it; they were surprised.

I had to ride, briefly, the Bluebird; just for the experience. I've seldom ridden school buses. It was a thrill, to say the least.

It very well might be. The time I rode Los Angeles's Thomas TL960 was an 80+ degree day (and the air conditioning on that thing just couldn't keep up). I'm sure on a colder day the heat would've felt just fine.

Great photos. Great diversity up there too as far as bus types and liveries (quite colorful).

Short Line's X32N service (Rhinebeck via Woodbury Commons, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie) goes to Newburgh. Alternatively, for cheaper fares, Metro-North to Beacon plus Leprechaun to Newburgh gets you there.

Where U coming from, OJ? I come over from the Bronx, to Yonkers via BeeLine; much cheaper that way. MNRR to Beacon gives you the connection to Newburgh. Additional (sparse) service via the County Loop to Poughkeepsie or just MNRR.
If done relatively early enough one could get the Poughkeepsie stuff and the UCAT buses. With UCAT you need time & patience.

Short Line doesn't serve downtown Newburgh, I guess it's worse that I thought it was the couple of times I was able to visit there, even Leprechaun stops serving the area once the sun sets.

I'm coming from Brooklyn, getting to Poughkeepsie is easy but Newburgh is a pain in the ass since no one wants to serve it outside of the rush hours.

Very end of it. I actually think its building was delayed because Poughkeepsie Transit was desperate for new buses and the 1993 Gilligs they replaced were looked and rode like they were 10 years older. This is what happens when your own mechanics don't just know how to fix buses, but the age of their buses.

Those Blue Birds were an emergency fleet put in place when much of LOOP's fleet burned several years back when part of their garage (shared with Poughkeepsie Transit) caught fire. It burned a couple of the other 1998 Phantoms and I believe some of their 2000 Orion V's too which led to the decrease of the fleet.

That Poughkeepsie Transit Thomas (built 2002, delivered very early 2003) is the only one in the fleet and was falling apart within a year of entering service. It's been banished to the Shoppers Special route for a few years at least.

I cut my transit teeth and picked my transit toes in Poughkeepsie about a decade ago and since I no longer have ties to the town it's nice to see how things have developed...or un-developed given how LOOP took a few steps backwards. Doubling fares in three years and ending east-of-the-Taconic service minus Taconic DDSO/Harlem Valley shift change service and the Route 55 corridor is just...bad. Poughkeepsie Transit, OTOH, really has nowhere to go but up since it's run like an afterthought and save for the Thomas have a truly bearable fleet for the first time in forever.

It's scary to think that if UCAT actually could draft up regular service schedules for most of their routes, they'd be a better system than the skeleton LOOP has become. They've already gotten there fleet wise by going from Thomases and Blue Birds to Orion VII's. When I was there, UCAT was a joke and an afterthought.

One though I left off: Cutaway seats on an Orion VII are BAD! I know CAT in Harrisburg does similar on their Gilligs, but it's just...tacky.

If New York ever recovers and Dutchess County doesn't threaten to do something wacky like secede to Connecticut, I'd suggest that Dutchess, Ulster, Putnam, and Orange counties make their own TA so the area can have decent bus service.

Which is why I was semi-seriously proposing that Dutchess (and perhaps Putnam) counties join Connecticut. New York is on life support as it is and it might simplify a lot of things if only certain towns want to pay for transit.
