B12 to Sutter Avenue-Rutland Road subway station |
|
|
Posted by Osmosis Jones on Mon Aug 30 20:45:34 2010 I'm know that the B12 already stops a block away from the (3) train at the Sutter Avenue-Rutland Road subway station, but why not reroute it to the station and give East New York Avenue passengers another convenient way to get to the (3) train? It can't be too costly as it would probably add 4 minutes to the total route length at most, and could utilize existing B15 and/or B47 stops. Here's a map of my proposed routing:View Larger Map |

In the westbound direction the B14 already takes passengers from that vicinity to the Utica Avenue Station where you could board the express as well as the local. In the eastbound direction, very few B12 passengers need the Number 3 toward New Lots. You would also inconvenience an awful lot of B 12 through passengers, although only by a few minutes. I don't think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I can only see this as a good idea only during late night hours like from 10 PM to 6 AM perhaps. |

I was looking at the B12 and saw that it didn't have that many convenient subway transfers, so I thought that adding one at the Sutter Avenue-Rutland Road station would improve its ridership and part in the bus network, but I forgot about the B14. I still think that the B12 is quite an odd route for the ridership it gets, but it surely does its job in getting people to Kings County Hospital. |

I think the ENY depot bound B12 should stay on Parkside Ave to Nostrand Ave so that it can have better access to the Winthrop Street Station. I dont think that many people are transferring from the 3 train to the B12 at Sutter Ave.You're right in saying that the B12 doesnt have direct subway connections except at both terminals... |

At the western terminal of the route the B12 should be extended from Alabama Avenue/East New York Avenue to the Broadway Junction Subway Station at Broadway Van Sinderen Avenue via making a U turn near Georgia Avenue then continue along Jamaica Avenue Broadway to the Broadway Junction Subway Station. The current westbound B12 bus stop at Alabama Avenue/East New York Avenue or at Alabama Avenue/Fulton Street (not sure) would become both a eastbound drop off/westbound pick up bus stop. Under this plan the current (first) westbound B12 bus stop at Alabama Avenue/East New York Avenue would be eliminated. The westbound B12 bus would go directly from the Broadway Junction along Broadway and then make a right turn at East New York Avenue going directly into the underpass. This would provide direct access for B12 passengers to the additional "A", "C" and "L" subway Lines. |

I would not extend from the Alabama Av Stop. At Alabama Av I would make the left like the B 25 then go onto Fulton St to Bway jct station. That Georgia Av u - turn has had some close calls with traffic since the B 12 began terminating there. Overall your idea makes sense. |

If the B12 takes Fulton Street to the Broadway Junction the B12 would then have to make a left turn at Van Sinderen Avenue and terminate accross the street from the Broadway Junction along Van Sinderen Avenue which is OK. On westbound trips the B12 would then make a right turn at Broadway and continue south along Broadway to East New York Avenue where the B12 would then make a right turn into the East New York Avenue underpass. Does this routing make sense? |
