Nice pic but I am not thrilled with those buses. A veteran mechanic (30+years seniority currently at Meadowlands) tells me that panels are glued on and since the buses have been in use the glue is drying up and unsticking so that's another thing that has to be repaired. It appears that the digital sign on this bus is b/o as well. |

What a travesty that they replaced much more attractive Flxible Metros and RTSs! I hope the future takes a different direction in NJ before too many of these buses are purchased. Have the people who ordered these buses ever looked at them? |

Well, considering that those buses will soon make up the entire fleet of 40-ft non-MCI buses, I'd say it's too late for the future to take a different direction. |

I don't think they buy them based on looks, but rather price! It does the job they were made to do, transport people. I'm also quite sure NABI will correct any problems that arise as it's their reputation on the line. With more than 1000 of them in California alone, I'm sure they know what they're doing. |

Yeah, 5405 was originally a Newton Ave bus. It was swapped with a newer 5500 series and sent up to Greenville because the yuppie f*cks in Hoboken riding the 126 thought they were too good to ride a transit bus. |

You are absolutely correct, when the smoke clears off this order all of the Non-Cruiser 40-foot buses will be NABI Model 416.15s. Which in a sense is good, but then its not. Its good because NJT would save in parts stock and what not but its not because when it comes time, they're gonna have to replace over 1,100 buses in one shot!-Trev |

Yep, but just like this order (which is spread over 6 years), it was spread over 3 years. The MONEY used to purchase isn't paid over time, its paid all at the same time. So still a bad move in a time of financial crunch. |

Yes and no...it kind of saves on the engineering costs as well as the cost (in employee time) of going through the bidding process with RFPs and such like that. Plus, buying buses in such large bulk could likely reduce the price-per-bus as well.Additionally, with buying buses in per-year batches, can't they make minor modifications to fit their needs (such as CAT vs ISLs, although that was kind of forced upon them). But now, I'm surprised to learn that the payment isn't awarded after each batch of buses is delivered! That will definitely be a headache at the end of the 6 year contract period. |

Or, as was the case with SEPTA, if the original style is being phased out with a newer style - the current New Flyer order started off with DE40LFs (8120-8219 in 2008, 8220-8339 in 2009) before SEPTA began recieveing the restyled (or, as some of us in Philly call them, "Remixes") DE40LFR - 8340-8459. |

The Neoplan order was the largest order in history of SEPTA, as well for Neoplan USA back in 1982. One-thousand-ninety-two (1092) units were purchased from 1982-1989. While many buses throughout the orders changed, much has remained the same. ![]() |

Word on the street is that these are suppose to be LFs with the old face. However, I don't believe it, NFI did away with that face as a standard and stated that you'd have to pay extra for the old face. I don't think we're in a position to pay extra, and paying extra would easily put the DBNA bid cheaper than the New Flyer bid. But I guess this will be one of those we'll see things... Take Pride,
