Which Flyer Hybrid looks the best?

Is it the new SEPTA hybrid:

Or the WMATA variety:

IMHO. I like the SEPTA hybrid, however the white paint has to go.

That SEPTA Flyer could easily be passed as a CNG bus ... so can the DE40LFA. SEPTA has a boring color scheme in my opinion. Mostly a white bus with little color. I like the WMATA Paint schemes. More color w/ a refreshing look

I'm gonna have to say WMATA. I'm not a fan of either one but it is the lesser of two evils. SEPTA's has no flow; 21st century caps on an early 1990s body with an unexplained contraption on the roof.

WMATA obviously has the better paint scheme (but that's not hard to do over SEPTA), but I have a hard time looking at both buses. I'm not feeling the "extra" stuff on top of SEPTA's newest DE40LFRs. While I still don't care for LFAs, I think WMATA's look better since they took off the wheel covers.

I’ll vote for the SEPTA bus because I hate the front-end cap on the WMATA buses, but I equally hate the roof cowlings.. We really shouldn’t be allowing transit agencies to waste money on unnecessary plastic crap like this during one of the worst financial and fiscal crises our country has faced. People would get where they’re going with a basic DE40LFR.

In THIS comparison, SEPTA's looks the best IMO. However, someone out there (don't remember who) has the same version as SEPTA's only with the frameless windows, which likely looks even better! :) I think they even have the full glass doors.

I don't remember which agency it was, though.

I remember the first time I rode one of WMATA's then brand new NABI 60BRTs on the U8. At least one person on the street watched our bus as we passed by. The new scheme and design grabbed the people's attention.

Why can't buses grab people's attention like the lovely designs found on LRT? There has to be a balance or people will just not notice bus transit anymore.

And expensive styling packages and extensive paint schemes are a small part of why that agency is broke.

Union fleecing and the fact that Annapolis/Richmond use the DC area as their ATM as well as a very poor corporate culture are larger reasons, but fancy buses are draining away the dough too.

Right but the frameless window treatment is all thats needed to "streamline" the flow from the front to the rear cap, it offers some sort of connectivity to make it all belong together. SEPTA's 1990s body actually LOOKS like a 1990s body, with a modern front and rear cap that looks like it doesn't belong.

Capital expenses does not compare to operating expenses in the world of transit. That's like saying you shouldn't buy decent shoes if you cannot afford your mortgage.

Wow, Mississauga's bus looks great! The one I'm thinking of is 40 feet and had some sort of green scheme with frameless windows.

Oh well, if SEPTA's had those frameless windows (and perhaps a better scheme) the buses would look awesome. For now, they just look quite nice, providing a little variety in the future of SEPTA's fleet.

In WMATA's case, once you start taking from the capital budget to pay for operating expenses, things can go downhill REALLY quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if they already did that in past years, and, well, you know what's happening.
