I came across this little document put together by some minds from NJIT and Rutgers. Especially interesting is the conceptual system map, as well as the fare-free zone in downtown Newark.

What do you guys think of this?

Newark Bus Rapid Transit (it is a PDF file).

I remember getting that document back in September and to me, it explained a lot about the Go25 for the Springfield Avenue project and the Go28 for the Liberty Corridor project.

The whole proposal for a Newark BRT Network is very interesting and would definitely like to see where they go with it.

Of course it is going to be a matter of funding and community approval (which has went well when meetings were held about these projects) if and ever the proper people would like to proceed with this.

As long as Cory Booker is mayor of Newark, I don't see why this project can't go forward. Granted, a lot of the push for the BRT network has to come from NJT which isn't going to be as easy due to the state-wide budget issues (which was the reason they scaled back funding for the proposed Camden-Glassboro LRT line that the Corzine administration promised - for now).

Mayor Booker has a vision for Newark which is slowly coming to fruition after years of Sharpe James' mismanagement and corruption. It certainly looks as though the BRT concept (even at the goBUS level that it's at now) will become a reality in a matter of a few years.
