I agree the purpose of the Q 89 or Q 9A is weird in terms of schedule but its main purpose was to give Linden Blvd (west) service to Jamaica. As we have mention in other post. The route needs to be a crosstown Queens route to L.I. and Gateway Mall via Linden Blvd. |

At the time, the Q9A was intended to serve a Social Security office out that way. It connected to the subway until the Jamaica Avenue el was cut back to Queens Boulevard. |

[Looking at the schedule of the weekdays only Q89 I can't figure out who this bus is supposed to serve.]Nobody. The route was established by Green Bus Lines as a pure "franchise holder" - in other words, its only purpose was to prevent anybody else from running local along that segment of Linden. |

Only MTA bus can make that kind of decision to extend the route and expand the hours to better serve Ozone Park and South Jamaica.I would love to see it connect to the A at Rockaway Blvd and go to Gateway mall or even lindenwood. That could spell death for the Q41 very slowly. |

The Q89 should have been restructured into a crosstown route between Gateway Center Mall in Brooklyn and Franklin Square in Nassau County via Gateway Drive, Fountain Avenue, Linden Blvd./No. & So. Conduit Avenues, Cross Bay Blvd., Rockaway Blvd. Linden Blvd., Dutch Broadway, and Franklin Avenue to Hempstead Tpke. |

Ok lets remove the LI portion of the route because right now that would not happen until MTA takes a current existing route beyond NIMBY county lines (just to clarify we already have Q5,85, 111, and 113 already serving Nassau county).So the question would be can the Q 89 survive if it was a crosstown route that terminated at Cambria Heights and Gateway Center. |

I'm glad to see that you agree with my idea, but it should also serve the Brooklyn General Mail Facility as it's the de facto bus terminal for East New York, and the Franklin Hospital Medical Center by rerouting it down Corona Avenue and Park Drive in Valley Stream. |

(That is when the Jamaica Avenue el was closed through the heart of Jamaica and cut back to Queens Boulevard.)Before 1977, the Q9A did connect to a subway line. |
