50 NOVALFS to be for Ulmer Park |
|
|
Posted by caine515 on Mon Mar 8 16:09:16 2010 Finally had the luck of catching #0055 this morning at 11am on the B6. I talked to the driver and he said that Ulmer Park is to recieve at least 50 of these buses. This would remove the 8800s,8900s,9000's,9100's,9200's and the older 9300's from the depot. Can anyone positivley confirm this?B44LTD- #4242-Orion NG B6- #0055-NOVALFS B38LTD- #8858-NOVABUS B100- #731-Orion V CNG B100- #3592-Orion VII |

My specuation, UP, FP will get those buses and possbly FLA for B46s service if they have those driver partions.. While I never been on those new 1200 Artics yet but I read on one of these boards that they have the driver partions and its from the same builder. I mean think about it, why waste money refitting buses that would retire soon when you can brand new ones that come with DP? Not to mention that the MTA probaly doesn't want B46 service reilent on 11-12 year old buses, yea the RTSs are troopers.. but still.... |

No. Theres no Nova LFS 40 foot bus order as of right now. Ulmar Park is now the dumping ground on handme down RTS buses. There will be an RFP later or next year in Express and Local buses. |

They only trained the B6 drivers and extra list B/Os to operate 055. Hence why it never ran on the B36. Btw UP no longer has this bus its still 100% RTSs, IMO if mantthanville doesn't need all of AMS fleet they should send their buses to UP, it would solve that issue of UP not having new buses. AMS is all hybrid and has like 75 buses, if mantthanville needs like only 15 of them or so they should send the rest of them to UP. Then the MTA won't have to buy new 40ft diesel buses for quite some time! Then maybe they will have some $$$ to save student metrocards. |

Let Manhattan have all those hybrids, that way their forced to get stuck with them and will get nothing from the next bus order. The next order better be for Brooklyn and hopefully Manhattan doesn't get shit out it. |

Sorry, but I still think kids should pay for their rides as god knows it is always hell when it is 3-4pm when they are loose on the trains and buses. I don't feel they deserve to ride for free and reak havoc on other riders that just wants to get to their destination 'in peace'. |

The parents of a lot of these kids in this city cannot afford to buy weekly or monthly Metrocards for their kids, the student cards need to stay. Mind you these parents have to buy Weekly or monthly cards for themselves, then they would have to buy cards for their kids! Not to mention the single mothers, no way they would be able to afford it. Also what if you have more than one kid that goes to a school you need to take a train or bus to get it, you'd be screwed six ways from sunday! Getting rid of the school metrocards would give kids an another reason NOT to go to school, it would most likely cause crime to go up because of kids running around out on the streets getting into trouble rather than being in school. |

All groups of people act stupid on public transportation. Look at the LIRR on saturday nights for example. Not all of those loud kids are bad kids, there just having fun, BSing around. I've seen kids that are cool in school have good grades etc, but always joke around/BS once there out (But never bother other people from what I seen, unless you're a attactive teenage girl). |

The MTA should try everything they can to save the student metrocards. They should cancel the Designline order and put the Flushing line CBTC project on hold until theres $$$ for it, I love my express bus but if they could cut the low use ones in order to save the student metrocards then I'm all for it. |

It's not so much a matter of kids paying for their rides, it's about NYC & NYS making a payment to NYCT. NYC should demand that the tolls on its MTA tunnels and bridges go to pay for only NYC uses; that alone should take care of the problem, although it will set off the suburbs who are used to the massive cash flow from NYC to their commuter RRs and bus operations. |

But they already go to school for free. Ok so maybe make it an incentive then, if the kids gets good grades like an A or B average then they can ride for free. But parents should be teaching kids to act like decent humans and not fucking animals that escaped from a zoo. It's unfucking believable the insanity of some kids these days. |

Ulmer Park, along with several other depots are not slated to recieved newbuses at this time. The MTA had considered buying an undetermined amount of Nova LFS buses. But right now, nothing is final with this proposal. When the new Orion VII CNG buses come in, College Point will be the first depot to get these new buses. 2 of these buses are to be delivered soon for training. MWAP |

Well the B6 was just testing it so they didn't have to train the drivers of other lines how to drive it. CP as big as it is can't limit buses to specific lines. I expect them to run those buses on various lines. |

The Nova LFS was a demo bus, and the MTA should not train several operators for a bus that does not have a future in the NYCTA 'sbus fleet right now. The Orion CNG is an order that was placed, and whatever depot gets these buses, all of the operators from that depot will be trained on them, and the buses will be on different routes. MWAP |

It will be interesting to see how the Cummins ISL handles that hill eastbound on the propest expressway on the B103 route. The Series 50 in the, RTSs, Orion V CNG and the ISB engine in the hybrids all are meh-ish on that hill. Those Series 60/CAT engines in the MCIs go up that hill like its not even there, then again thats expected from those two engines since they have more power and are made for OTR/semis. Its gonna be fun riding those NGs on the QBX1, I'm glad CP will get some new toys, their CNGs are beat to an bloody plup IMO. |

It already is boring-especially on the weekends. The only buses that see service are those 1700s.And I think the boringness is spreading over to MTA Bus because there were nothing but Hybrids on all of the LGA routes yesterday and today. Not 1 RTS or Orion V was seen in service on the Q53 or on any of the routes where I was at. When I passed LGA Depot earlier on Monday night, I notice all of the RTSs and Orion Vs were sitting there while there were a few Orion VIIs. And this was around 8pm. I am just wondering who is in charge over at LGA because I think there needs to be a little more diversity in service...especially on the weekends. The Hybrids do need repairs and a rest as well. The mileage on those buses are through the roof...already. I understand these are different times than in the past. However, why is the MTA so obsessed with these Hybrid buses? |
