They Have Begun to Arrive - Former Bee Lines Buses |
|
Posted by TCC Senior Man on Thu Nov 26 21:49:57 2009 Get your cameras at the ready because the former Bee Lines Orions have begun to arrive at MTA Bus and will go into service possibly as early as tomorrow, Friday November 27th.LaGuardia Depot has so far received delivery of at least 4 of these former Bee Lines Orions. Spotted in the garage this morning were Numbers 101,102,103 and 112. They all are now in the MTA Livery and have fare boxes installed. LaGuardia may receive as many as 20 of these buses over the next few days. Note that the blue stripe wraps around the entire bus, including the rear of the bus. I did not get to enter any of these buses but they look great as far as the exterior goes. |

At 3:30 AM today, all except for No. 101 were inside the garage itself. It's possible that they may be moved outside by tomorrow but then again, anything is possible. Bus No. 101 was outside the 23rd ave. exit but by 5AM had been moved elsewhere. |

There was a similar situation with the ex-Green Bus Lines Orion V buses, the MTA just removed the electronic route sign and programmed the electronic side destination sign so that it will show the route designation in addition to the destination. |

I don't care, as long as I get to see them. The Q39 is now the most interesting route on my area. Better than looking at same crap of Fresh Pond's routes; I only care for the originals. Sick and tired of hand-me-down RTSs other than 1998 Novas. |

No, he describes how MTA reprogram the destination signs. They have LED signs.Anyway the ex-Bee Line Orion V LCD destination side signs fit the MTA destination signs, they really dont need the route box sign. |

In my case, I like taking the Q67 home from work in the afternoon (I take the Q39 on the way in quite early) because it is much less crowded. The Q39 gets loads of school kids at least on my riding schedule. It does make sense in LGA getting a batch since they do have a lot more buses due to be replaced than JFK and FR does. I assume Baisley Park will get some too since they still have a bunch of 8000-8300 series RTS', many there since day one of MTA bus takeover. |

Nah, you didn't flip out.You just didn't expect some to get assigned to LGA, that's all. Neither did I. But once the 30 NG's came in a few weeks ago and there were still a bunch of low 8000's and original QSC RTS' still there, they needed something to replace them, other than more 8400/8500's which would be there only temporarily. |

Yes, but they could've sent all the ex-Bee line buses to Far Rock, JFK, and BP. In turn FR and JFK can then send to LGA their displaced hybrids. That would be a fair trade wouldn't it? |

Good points, I guess they didn't want to move too many buses around. Personally I would've thought it would've made more sense to leave the ex-BL buses at FR, JFK, and BP and in turn displace some FR and JFK buses to send to LGA [plus it easily would've lowered LGA's average fleet age].But if there is any place that probably could use new buses as much as LGA, it is BP. I never understood why they couldn't just leave the ex-JBL buses there and send the older TMCs to the ex-GL and ex-TBC. |

I'd rather take the Q67 too as it's faster than the Q39, gets less crowded than the Q39, and is way more reliable than the Q39, but the Q67 just doesn't go where I want to go unless I want to walk 10 minutes from the bus stop to my destination. |

The Q67 has better schedule adherence than the Q39. On paper, the Q39 does provide more service tho. But I come home from work during the tail end of school dismissal time, so the Q39 hasn't "recovered" yet. That's why the Q67 works out better for me, even though it is a slightly longer walk after I get off. |

Maybe so, but at least they are running them now than still at eastchester to wait for a full body repaint. It even took some time before the ex-PBL buses were repainted. The MTA just slapped their logo over the former pbl line logos. |
