Citaro spotted on the BX12

At approximately 9:45 am, the testing bus from Mercedes-Benz, the Citaro, was on the BX 12 route heading west near the corner of Pelham Parkway North and Williamsbrdige Road.

Sorry I couldn't get any pictures, I was driving to work and I couldn't get out my camera or cell phone camaera in time.

I didn't realize they were still testing this bus.

I did see a sign that said NO PASSENGERS - ENGINEERING in PROGRESS.

I'm gonna guess so, because from my knowledge only one Citaro was sent state-side to Daimler Buses N.A. from Mercedes.

I believe so, it's the same bus that was in New York, which was the same one that visited Ottawa and a few other places...

Go figure the nose is a clone to the O7NG.

Seems more like it's a facelifted O7. Structures of 07NG and Citaro are completely different.

So then that means that bus is back in town....again.

Well, with the NovaBUS order in the works and the MTA looking to replace articulateds in the next few years, I guess DBNA is looking for input and feedback or some further testing towards development of the Orion low-floor articulated to compete with the LFS...after all, both have plants in New York State...

I was wondering if that BUILD IN NY rule is constitutional. If another company can low bid and lose that seems wrong. Has any company tried to argue this in court ? And companies moving plants to NY to get the contracts. Seems like there could be a valid argument there. If NJ had this they would be out of luck .

Maybe it's only the MTA that has that "Built in NY" claus, because almost every other TA in NY is going Gillig and/or NABI. ALbany, Syracuse, Rochester, Poukeepsie, Oneonta, and Suffock are now Gillig and Westchester is NABI.. Binghampton is back to Orion.

Yeah its strange that it seems to be just the MTA in NY not taking outside bids.

the Orion 7 "new look" is based off the styling of the Citaro. The Citaro came first, and are actually very nice buses. I rode several of them in europe this past year. Not totally sure how they would handle heavy duty, lax maintance US use though, although since they would have to recieve mod's to run in the US (EPA 2010 engines, ADA, etc) who knows?

Yeah but the Orion 7 NG took some notes from the Citaro as well as the Setra 417. Not that it matters since all three are Daimler products.

The front end is very similar, especially near the sign area. This bus looks more boxy though.

Styling wise? Yes, they resemble each other, and that was Daimler's intent. But they're hardly "the same bus."
