Peter, I loved the Twin Coach trackless trolleys in San Francisco. I have great movies of them on the 5 Mc Alister, 1 California and 30 Stockton. I actually placed a bid on one when they were sold, but lost out to the scrap dealer by just a few dollars. The scrap dealer offered to sell me one at an outrageous price and I declined. I had also bid on a St. Louis Car Co. coach, like the ones that ran on the 14 Mission and 9 Richland. I lost that too.

The St. Louis Car Co. coaches were rather rare. I only remember Johnstown, Detroit and New Orleans having that type. I rode them in Johnstown as well as San Francisco. I have a pair of front roll signs from a MUNI St. Louis coach.

There were thousands of cars in San Francisco, even back then. My movies from the 1960's and 1970's show them. I even filmed {the aftermath} of an accident where a car sideswiped a MUNI Marmon-Herrington trolley coach around 1970. The interesting part of the scene was the other coaches, poles fully extended, struggling to get by the accident. There was no EPU feature back in those days. You did it "on the wires" or you didn't get by.
