My Amex Blue card has an RFID in it, and it does work through my wallet. But my point is, if I've got a 1:100 chance of dropping my card inadvertently using it the few times a day I do use it, increasing the number of times I need to use it will increase my drop chances. Of course, this assumes it needs to be removed from my wallet. |

It works out only if you're able to pay the balance in full each monthObviously! You shouldn't be charging more than you can afford! and there's no fee associated with the card (or the benefits are of a higher value than the fees) Obviously! That's why none of my cards have any fees. I've got AMEX Rewards. Amex has a $150 annual fee, but I've cashed in points for hotel rooms and an iPod touch, so I've made more than the value of the fee back, even accounting for the number of years I've paid it. Ouch. First of all, AMEX has many cards that allow to to participate in the Membership Rewards program, so there's no need to choose a card that has a fee. I'm in Membership Rewards, and I use it with a card that has no fee. Second of all, using rewards programs to get goods instead of services is BAD NEWS. For example, in AMEX Membership Rewards, you can get a $50 Amtrak gift certificate for 5000 points. That's effectively a 1.00% reward. However, as part of the same program, you can get an Apple iPodŽ Touch - 8GB for 35,200 points. That iPod only costs $199 from Apple. So that's a 0.57% reward. You're getting about half the value for your points when you get goods instead of services. So if you play your cards right, there are no downsides - only upsides. So why wouldn't someone want to use a credit card for paying for their transit fare? |

What do you want from a 15 cent piece of plastic? How many people use their MetroCard 5 days a week for more than one month? The cost of loading money from your worn out card to a new card is FREE. Ideal? No. Doable? Absolutely. The reason why MetroCards get stuck is because of the box mechanism. I would not have the transfers coming out of the same slot as the MetroCard goes in, but I didn't design the boxes. When you use your debit card like I do, it gets worn down too. Please visit the all the subway stations and major bus transfer stops. There are piles of MetroCards. I dont even see a debit or credit cards pile in the garbage or liter on the street. Tell that to the MTA if you insist fixing the fareboxes on buses. Perhaps a higher quality MetroCard could fix that. Perhaps one can get a six pack of MetroCards linked to the same account so that as one wears down, another can be activated. We do not need to replace the MetroCard NOW for such trivial things. Higher quality MetroCard, yeah right. You mention 15 cent plastic, add another 10 or 20 wont make a difference. Would MTA pay that? It wont last long. I still think you need to move on now with the advantages of MetroCard except there are a lot more disadvantages to MetroCard. Accept the fact that MetroCards are dont last really long. Smartcards are the future. |

I can confirm that it works with a PayPass credit card in the wallet.Thanks. Of course, half the time, at certain retailers, the PayPass reader won't read my card, and I have to then swipe. I would not dismiss Hank's point, though. Billing errors happen and can sometimes take weeks to fix. Once you call about the error, you do not pay that charge until it is resolved. In addition, I bet Hank has more than one credit/debit/ATM card. You don't want all of them charged for the express bus ride. That's easy to resolve. I don't carry around all my cards in my wallet. I leave most of them at home. So only carry around one RFID credit card. And if you have more than one that you absolutely need and your wallet is the absolutely best place for it then maybe there are so kind of foil slip cases you could put them into. Could also bury them so deep in your wallet, on the opposite side from the RFID card you'll be using, that they won't get read. |

Back when all of these agencies used tokens, you got the discounted toll as long as you used the tokens. Now that they've phased out tokens, there is no way for someone to get the discount without having multiple EZPass accounts. When I was younger, my family used to go to the Poconos frequently, so we had roll of DRJTBA tokens. So even those weekend trips were discounted. But with EZPass, they may not be. |

"Please visit the all the subway stations and major bus transfer stops. There are piles of MetroCards. I dont even see a debit or credit cards pile in the garbage or liter on the street."People tend not to throw away things with personally identifiable information on the street intentionally. That would include credit and debit cards. With regards to the fareboxes, they are still having trouble making all their runs in Staten Island. The drivers allege that they aren't being given enough running time. The dollar match (20%) required for a new farecard system could be given to them so they have enough time to make their runs. "Higher quality MetroCard, yeah right. You mention 15 cent plastic, add another 10 or 20 wont make a difference. Would MTA pay that? It wont last long." If more people bring it up, it could happen.
