Limited "NG" Service on Staten Island for Haloween |

Posted by MTA_SI on Sat Oct 31 10:11:45 2009 Dept. of Buses has asked Staten Island dispatchers to place as few as possible Orion VII NG's in service today. This is in part because of the situation last night where on the S52, S46, and S48 line over 20 buses were hit with eggs (frozen too), a gallon of paint, rocks, bricks and more. The paint job on the new buses being so new, the egg can cause damage to the paint. |

My guess is that Staten Island can probably make score with a majority of Orion V's as opposed to NGs the other boroughs. IIRC, the percentage of Orion Vs to NGs is higher at the Staten Island depots compared to other depots. |

I could see today being a 100% Orion V day because Staten Island service on weekends is pretty much half of what it is on weekdays.On a normal weekend though, you'd be hard pressed to find a O5 because they usually throw every single NG in service. |

Makes sence.27 years ago tonight my wife and I were waiting for a bus in Howard Beach. While waiting for it, 2 groups of teens were passing by chucking eggs, shaving cream and what not. Then we were between them and she refused to get out of the their line of fire. She explained: "They're Not Throwing At Us!" I reminded her about innocent bystanders getting hurt this way as I kicked a leg out from under her causing her to fall. Just as an egg whizzed by her head. A somewhat dangerious to do considering she was also 8 months pregnant at the time. The bus came a few minutes later. A Green Line bus covered in eggs and shaving cream and OOS! |

Earlier today I expressed the fear of an operator getting hurt. Tragically it happened and it probably wasn't even dark outside yet. Then if all the drivers pulled in over fear of their safety or all booked off sick en-masse NYCT would cite them for Taylor Law violations. Let the blood be on union and management for not moving fast enough in getting those safety barriers to protect the operators. Now she goes on workmans compensation, some other person covers her run, and the incident becomes a statistic and all is forgotten. |
