MTA New York City Transit (MTA) purchased 90 Nova LFS articulated vehicles, to be assembled in Nova Bus’ newest plant located in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with delivery slated for the first half of 2010.
The order follows a successful six-week in-revenue service run of a Nova LFS Artic bus on the Bx12 route in the Bronx and the M15 route in Manhattan.
The Nova LFS Artic features a stainless steel structure; a particulate filter that reduces emissions; a time-tested front door access ramp for mobility impaired passengers; a re-designed driver area; and wide mid and rear doors, triggered by motion sensors once the bus has come to a full stop.

These buses will probably get assigned to Charleston (20 buses) Gun Hill (35) and Flathbush (35). All for current or future SBS service. I'm sure order will be increased if buses are a success

The S79 SBS could only be run with 20 buses? I'm guessing that peak requirement will be more (unless the S79 local will continue to run).

My guess is that some of the 5734-68 batch (5767 and 5768 are still capable) will end up moved.

The B44 SBS is going to require a lot more than 35 buses.

Yeah there will still be a S79 local, and the bx uses only about 26 per daily operation I understand. Yeah the B44 and M15 will be a huge line

The M15 by itself would probably use 40 buses by itself. But also keep in mind that when the SBS gets introduced, local ridership is going to go down significantly; 40-footers on the Bx12 local runs suddenly make sense again.

True when i go to zerega for bus moves i see NG's on the BX12, and for now espically during rush hour it looks way overpacked.

I think the B44 will get transfered to Grand ave and the LFS's will go there. IIRC flatbush can't hold artics while Grand ave can. FLA would get the B47 back.

No, the order will likely be majority on the SBS routes: M15 (2010) and Bx12. If the buses really perform well in the contract order, we may see a very large articulate bus order after the 90 buses.

nah. I see Ulmer Park getting the B2 and B31 and GA getting the B49. The LFS buses will wind up being assigned to FLA that way.

The B2 and B31 combined only uses like 9 to 10 buses. IIRC the B4 uses more buses than that when it was at Ulmer Park. So it should be room at UP for those routes.

"nah. I see Ulmer Park getting the B2 and B31"

why would you run the b2 and 31 from a depot so far away from the routes wasting even more money in fuel and salary.

Rush hour b2 if combined with the b100 could run artics. As it is during rush hour everyone knows what time the bus comes kings highway bound and the bus is scheduled to leave a few min after the express arrives kings plaza bound. The raw ridership data does not tell the true story on these lines during rush hour. They are a mass load up line. One express local combo on the b2 and b31 fill two full buses up during rush hour

It would be nice if they let at least 2 B100's leave at the same time. The bus that leaves first is packed to the brim and the next one [that i catch] just waits till a decent amount of riders gets on.

An illustration of the new two-part bus the Plattburgh Nova Bus plant will be producing for the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority

Nova Bus has received a large order for transit buses from the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York City.

In a news release, the company announced the MTA has ordered 90 Nova LFS (Low Floor System) articulated buses for its New York City Transit system. The buses will be assembled at Nova Bus’s $25 million assembly plant in The Development Corp.’s Banker Road Industrial Park in the Town of Plattsburgh, with delivery scheduled for the first half of 2010.

The order follows a six-week in-revenue service run of one of the articulated buses on New York City Transit routes in the Bronx and Manhattan.

The company Web site states the articulated bus is 62-feet long, two sections connected by a flexible section that helps it make turns. It has seating for up to 62 people.

The stainless steel bus frames are made in St. Francois-du-Lac, Quebec, and shipped by truck to the Plattsburgh facility. They are covered in fiberglass and thermoplastic skins to help protect against damage from rocks and debris.

Other features include a particulate filter that reduces emissions and a front-door access ramp for mobility-impaired passengers. The wide mid and rear doors feature motion sensors that are triggered after the bus comes to a complete stop.

Assembly work is done at each of 17 work stations in the plant. The buses also undergo systems tests, as well as road and water tests in Plattsburgh.

The company has 172 employees in Plattsburgh. It is already building LFS transit buses for two transit authorities in British Columbia, where they will help transport visitors to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The MTA’s New York City Transit has a fleet of more than 4,500 buses that cover 249 routes in the five boroughs of New York City. It carries an estimated 2.3 million passengers on an average weekday.

Nova Bus is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volvo Bus Corporation, the second-largest motorcoach and transit bus manufacturing company in the world. The company has two plants in Canada and is hosting a grand-opening celebration at its newest plant, in Plattsburgh, at 11 a.m. today.
