Long Island Bus 193 and 1700 (4 pics) |
|
Posted by AMoreira81 on Mon Nov 17 20:05:39 2008 All pictures are my own.193 1700 (This bus has 41 seats in it.) An interesting sidenote: You will notice decelerator lights on the 1700. Yet the MTA has removed them from the O5s. |

I'm not sure if they are in New York State. The NYCDOT had ordered buses in 1993 and again in 1999 with them (and the MTA had ordered buses since at least 1989 with them). However, the MTA has mostly either removed or disabled the lights. |

TCAT ordered buses with them as late as 2002 but had to reconfigure them to change when the lights came on to comply with the new law. |

However, the question then remains if the MTA is subject to the same laws TCAT is. (IINM, TCAT buses have BUS plates, whereas MTA buses have OFFICIAL plates...and there is a BIG legal difference.) |

IIRC the decel lamp law only req. that they don't blink, but stay steady when slowing or stopping in conjunction w/ the retarder, opposed to using brake lamps when slowing or stopping w/ the retarder. No retarder no deceleration lamps unless the brake is applied (definition for retarder as for this purpose trans. or engine retarder/jake brake) As for official veh. refer to the pre MTA LIB consolidation into the MTA DOB. |

I guess since the majority, if not all, of LIB's destination readings are large, single words anyway, the Titans aren't necessary for legibility reasons, assuming of course that the Horizons are cheaper. |

Buses under one of the MTA Regional Bus brands (NYC Bus, LI Bus, or Bus) all have OFFICIAL plates (K/L/M and 5 numbers). If a bus is government-owned, but privately branded, it is up to the operator or government to decide how to register the vehicle (NOTE: Some former Green Bus Lines O5s never had their plates changed upon takeover.) |

The 288-462 batch of O5s have 44 seats. 1700 has 41 seats in it. If anything, it would be the CNG tanks that would limit the standee capacity to about 12 or so. |
