Two Questions about the Orion 7 |
|
Posted by Hart Bus on Wed Oct 29 14:18:50 2008, in response to My My Look what I found Exclusive was Re:Suffolk Transit Orion 7 Next Generation, posted by boliqua2 on Sat Oct 25 16:25:55 2008. First Question is when are they projected to go into service? None of the buses pictured have license plates on them.Second Question is how will Suffolk County number their buses that will be received in 2010 and later. Example: They did use the conventional 96xx, 97xx, and 99xx for the year of the model. I think 2001-2005 meant a year 2000 delivery. Then for the last two orders they flipped the year so that it became 50xx for 2005 and 80xx for the 2008 deliveries. Will they go "Back to the Future" and use 10xx, etc? |

Posted by Mac5689 on Wed Oct 29 22:50:24 2008, in response to Two Questions about the Orion 7, posted by Hart Bus on Wed Oct 29 14:18:50 2008. they prob will go with 10xx, or they could go with 1xx since they haven't used that. but they will most likly go with 10xx.2000-2005 were brought in the year 2000 and go by 20xx, so i would hopw they don't by buses in the year 2020, or hopefully the 2000 buses would be long gone by then. |

Sounds typical of what the TA does. In the 60s it was mainly GMC, mid/late 70s it was Flxible, 80s and part of the 90s the RTS. Now of course it's Orion. I was hoping for New Flyer, which seems to proving itself well at nearly all other major transit agencies. |

Because Orion would be probably on life support if it wasn't for the MTA. The fact that the entire state isn't supporting them with a couple exceptions outside the MTA speaks volumes. |

The TTC is to Canada what the MTA is to the US, not just in sheer #1 fleet size but to Orion's vitality as a company. Yes, I know their customer list in Ontario is a little better in recent years than New York, but same point stands. The MTA and TTC orders have been so large that Orion can only fit those smaller operators in, yes? Their chronic lateness might be a part of it too... |

Suffolk has always been Gillig. there has only been three times when there buses weren't. in 1980's when SCT first ordered their buses, in 1993 when they ordered Flex's, and 1999 when they ordered the orions. |
