Todays Run and Pics ( 7.4.08 ) |

Posted by lbt 9415 on Sun Jul 6 00:37:38 2008 Happy Independence Day to everyone. My day would be spending most of the day at work driving.I leave home around 12pm for the 35 minutes drive to Santa Ana. At about 1240pm, I arrive at the yard. Sign on. Today I will be doing 2 of my favorite routes... the 1 and the 76. The first route I will be doing is the 76, which is a nice and pretty quiet line for about 3 hours. This route goes from Huntington Beach to Newport Beach Fashion Island area via SNA Airport. I haven't done this route in about 4 months. They relocated the bus stop at SNA Airport. It drops off right in front of the main terminal baggage claim area on the lower level. Its a very convenient stop vs walking all the way to the parking lot. A friend would join me on this trip to keep me company. The trip is very light with about 4-5 people the most. Several airport workers along the way and a few off-duty F/As from UAL going down to Fashion Island 3pm I get relieved and enjoy my 1 hr split before the real fun begins. I decided to explore around the yard...check out the newest C40LFRs in our fleet. One unit that particularly intrested me the most was # 5531. Its a 2007 NewFlyer C40LFR with a cool Disneyland wrap on it...so i just had to get my pics. 7519 and 7520 ( 2008 NewFlyer C40LFRs ) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 5531 lookin all pretty.... ![]() ...so i fired it up and posed it for photos. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 418pm comes by fairly quickly and its time to go make the relief on the 1 line. Todays bus on the 1 would be # 5606. Since its 4th of July, the 1 line is notorious for being late because of the summer beach traffic or whatnot. Today was no exception. The relief was made about 38 minutes late. It doesnt effect me much...as I will still get a good break at Long Beach. Scheduling Dept purposedly build in a 90 minute recovery time at Cal State LB during the summer on line 1...as this route is about 48 miles ( 2.5 hours ) from end to end. 523pm-Cruisin down Pacific Coast Highway towards Long Beach. Summer Beach traffic everywhere. Lots of hotties all over the place ( girls and guys alike). There was a detour along the route in Huntington Beach...it didnt really take away from the break though. Northbound summer beach traffic through Huntington Beach ![]() The real fun was on the southbound trip from Long Beach to San Clemente. Leave Cal State Long Beach directly on time at 719p. The traffic actually worser than the northbound trip. Cars parked and double parked in the bus stop zones, which made it difficult to serve the stops. Keep in mind that I am the last bus of the day too. Southbound ![]() I like these mirrors. You can see everything ![]() One of the many a-holes parking in the bus stops. There were sure more than enough tow trucks along PCH too. ![]() 5606 at Newport Transit Center. I took a few minutes here to stretch and use the restroom. A few passengers would also step off and stretch too. ![]() ![]() Spectators gatering around at Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Dana Point watching the fireworks show. It was really beautiful. I picked up a lot of hotties on this trip too. A few girls going to Corona Del Mar. Two guys taking the bus down to San Diego, which is accomplishable by bus. Heavy traffic going through Dana Point. By this time, I was already 50 minutes late... but I really didnt care. What really caught me off guard was the unexpected detour down in San Clemente along Camino Real. I would eventually notify Cen Comm about it, and i figured out how to get out of it. yeah i know Im late, but its cool. This is the Orbital Radio System ![]() 1030pm - Arrived at the end of the line in San Clemente... which is nothing more than a carls jr and a bus stop for the North San Diego County Transit 395 bus. The 2 guys get off here and wait for the 395 bus. I go out of service and go back to the yard. The freeway is backed up all the way to about Mission Viejo. Cen Comm calls me and wanders if Im available for overtime. I accepted the offer. I had to help out another bus that was overloaded at Disneyland. The route would be the ever-so-busy 43 route. Picked up a standing load on this trip and completed it all the way to Costa Mesa. 1225am-Returned back to the yard 103am-Arrived home |

The 7500s will be painted in the BRT scheme before the Harbor Blvd BRT line is implemented. - Are these things Cummins-powered? Cummins C-Gas 280 |

We are getting more C40LFRs all the way into the 5700s. All these C40LFRs will evetually replace all the 40ft diesel buses. At this time, all 1995 D40LFs and a handful of the 1997/98 D40LFs are in the contigency fleet. We're going to get C40LFRs numbered 5120-5150 with high back reclining seats ( to replace the D40HFs 5101-5114 and extras for service expansion ). |

They do make a D40SLF with one door but as far as I know only the Metropolitan Council in Minneapolis ordered it. Valley Metro in Phoenix bought 24 D40LFRs in 2007 with two doors, highback (but non-reclining) seating, and no luggage racks for express service expansion. |

Still don't know what they are testing though (and why they need a C40LFR from another TA when they will have 101 of them by the end of this month).By the way, do the 2008 C40LFRs have LED lighting? It seems like they have retrofitted some of the NABIs with the LED lighting, and the 2008 Valley Metro C40LFRs got LED lighting and eliminated pull cords in favor of buttons (which most passengers haven't gotten used to yet). |
