Fuel prices..really suck.
Cutting services like that will hurt a lot of people.

It may, I mean may, upset enough people to the point where the government will have to increase transit agency spending.

From what I understand, they are trying to pull a Sun Tran and convert their fleet to biodiesel, which apparently helped them out of a fare increase, but they did it a bit too late. Is this all fuel-related?

they usually claim its tax related. Lot of cuts all over, even Hernando counties "the bus" may cease to exist.

But I'm still lost as to how the taxes are LESS than they were 8 years ago. I don't fully buy it!

What usually happens when its stated that the taxes are less...its because the overall spending habits...when the spending habits are changed, even to a small degree overall, then the collection of taxes are decreased, thus the small percentage that is received by transit agencies is less. Then when you factor in the higher operating costs (in actually dollars) versus what the agencies project for each fiscal year, those deficits can arrive very quickly. So with the operating costs increasing at a larger rate and the funding (from the tax collection of the municipalities; based on the funding policy --generally speaking, not sure of the funding sources in Florida)...one can generally say that maybe the main reason for the service cuts in that area.
