Big Brother Is Watching You...On 9211! |
|
|
Posted by rionOne on Mon Jun 30 15:22:00 2008 Manhattanville Nova RTS #9211 has been fitted with a rather strange Surveillance Camera setup...![]() 6 Roof Mounted Cameras (2 Facing Rearward @ Different Angles, 2 Facing Forward @ Different Angles, 1 on the Back Door and 1 on the Front Door)
This is the first bus I've seen like this, so pardon me if this is possible old news, but I guess this is one of the demos for a possible system on all MTA buses. Regards, Trevor Logan, Jr. www.ttmg.org |

Shouldn't they just need three (one facing the road, one in front facing the passengers and the other all the way in the back facing the front)? The extra cameras seem to be a waste of money. |

Strange that Manhattanville RTS' are getting cameras installed. I thought that MJQ was the only depot to test out the system. As for the cameras, the amount is a bit too much. One notable thing I noticed was the windshield camera. The one on Quill's RTS buses is more of a box than what is seen on 9211.Side note, I remember when 9211 was a MJQ bus. Thanks for posting those photos, Trevor. |

Actually, MTA is not paying a penny for these camera's. They were purchased thru grants from US Homeland Security. They will also be saving the MTA millions in fradulent law suits. It seems as though when a MTA bus is involved in a accident, not only do the passengers claim injuries, but, people off the street run up, jump on the bus while the B.O. is exchanging info, then claim injuries. This is a BIG step in reducing bogus law suits thats costing MTA millions and forcing fare increases. Now, with the windshield cam, let's see if the MTA turns the tides and uses videos against the drivers for violations of company policies, rules, and laws! I'm for the passenger cams but totally against the windshield cams! |
