New Buses Headed to Boston MBTA |
|
|
Posted by Sid from NJ on Fri Jun 6 12:34:20 2008 Yesterday, while driving west on I-84 between Hartford, CT, and Sturbridge, MA, I spotted about a half-dozen New Flyer D40LF's in the "T" paint scheme. I was able to identify 0797-0800. I suspect these buses will be placed in service in the near future to replace some RTS's, which are still quite numerous in Boston. |

They are part of the option order of 155 old-style D40LF's that beagn arriving in April, and yes they will replace RTS's.Once the order is complete, the MBTA will have only 125 active RTS's, although the best of the retired buses will be retained at Everett Shops as a contingency fleet. |

If you have some information to the contrary, please share. Otherwise, I'm going with what I've read and been told from other sources - that 15 or so of Cabot's NABI's will move over to Arborway, which would indicate that there will be 15 Arborway NABI's cycling through the overhaul program at any one time. I wouldn't be shocked to see a few additional RTS's beyond the 125 Midwest rehabs remaining in service for a while, but it's not likely to be a large number. |

The MBTA just auctioned of 13 flyer TT's and about 130 rts'sand the salvage Company is paying $3000. per unit Yes some nabi's from Cabot will be moved over to Arborway but the balance of the RTS will be around for some time helping out the garages...Don't count the rts's out yet.. I think the Neoplans will be gone before all the rts's are retired |
