First, let me say thank you for your service to our country - there may be a lot of anti-war talk going on right now, but some of us do appreciate people like yourself who are willing to serve. Now, to the bus talk. If the RTS's were still doing express service when you left, I guess it's been a few years! I'm not sure if you've been keeping up on developments on this site or others, but here are a few highlights: - MCI over-the-road cruisers now operate almost all NYC Transit express service. - All of the old MCI Classics and GMC RTS's are now retired. All RTS's older than 1990 vintage are now gone and hundreds of Orion VII hybrids are now in their place. - A new entity called 'MTA Bus Company' took over the NYCDOT private operators (Command, Green, Jamaica, Liberty Lines, New York Bus Service, Queens Surface and Triboro) in 2005-06. They also operate hundreds of Orion VII's and MCI cruisers along with some older TMC RTS's from NYCT, and all remaining RTS and Orion buses from the private lines have been repainted in the MTA blue and white scheme. I would recommend a visit to Jamaica Center to see a good mix of the various buses now in service. Enjoy your time! Jim D. |
