When the (originally) M-11 was started up in 1933, its southern terminus was 57th Street and 2nd Avenue. It was called "York Avenue-57th Street" to distinguish from another East Side Omnibus route, M-12 - York Avenue-86th Street, which route would later be incorporated into New York City Omnibus' Route 18 (now M86+SBS). It is thus ironic that today M31 truly IS a York Avenue-57th Street route, going, as you said, all the way across 57th up to 11th Avenue and 54th. (And even more ironic that, on 10th and 55th, there are technically two M-11's - the one that is today M31, and the 9th-Amsterdam route - that stop there.)When was the southern terminus moved to 59th and Lex? |
